Green Space Worker

Contract: Temporary – 3 Months
Hours: 37 Hours per Week, Monday to Friday
Rate: £12.71 per hour
About the Role
We are looking for a reliable and motivated Green Space Worker to support a borough-wide tree mapping project across parks, open spaces and other council-owned land.
Working outdoors, you'll use a tablet-based mapping system to accurately record the location of trees, helping to create a comprehensive digital record of the borough's green assets. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys working outside and has an interest in the environment, surveying or arboriculture.
What You'll Be Doing
- Carry out surveys of trees located on council-owned land
- Use a tablet and digital mapping software to accurately record tree locations
- Collect and record survey data in line with project requirements
- Travel independently between sites across the borough
- Walk reasonable distances across parks, open spaces and uneven terrain
- Report progress and any issues to the Green Space Officer
- Ensure all information is recorded accurately and consistently
- Follow Health & Safety procedures while working outdoors and in public areas
- Work independently to meet project targets and deadlines
- Use a tree identification app to assist with identifying tree species where required
What We're Looking For
Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Ability to walk reasonable distances over uneven ground
- Good attention to detail and accuracy
- Basic IT skills, including confidence using tablets or mobile devices
- Ability to work independently and manage your own workload
- Good communication skills
- Awareness of Health & Safety when working outdoors
- Ability to travel independently between sites
Desirable
- Basic knowledge of tree species identification
- Experience in grounds maintenance, arboriculture, environmental work or landscaping
- Experience using GPS, GIS or digital mapping software
- Experience carrying out surveys or collecting field data
- Interest in trees, biodiversity or environmental conservation
