The Haggis Box has a café inside the Scottish Storytelling Centre Royal Mile, specialising in our national dish haggis, neeps & tatties. We serve locals, tourists, performers, corporate clients and events guest in a lively café and catering environment. We
Along with the day-to-day café activities, we provide the corporate catering inside the Scottish Storytelling Centre, some corporate catering to offices around Edinburgh and we have a catering trailer that attends events and private parties around Scotland.
We are looking for an organised and proactive Catering Manager to work closely with the business owner as a key support in delivering our catering and events operations; liaising with customers, preparing quotes, ordering & food preparation & delivery associated with the corporate catering and events sides of the business.
This is a hands-on, varied role combining admin, customer communication, food prep and event delivery. You’ll also support the café team with regular shifts, especially in the early stages.
This role suits someone who enjoys responsibility, takes initiative, and wants to be a trusted right-had person in a small, growing business.
The successful applicant will have previous hospitality experience, some administration experience involving MSExcel (or similar) and a UK drivers licence (no car required as we have an automatic pool car).
The role is paid at £15 per hour, so you will be paid for all the hours you work and have your holiday accrued accordingly. You will also be receive a proportionate split of the TRONC tips.
Your 2 days off a week will mainly be the same and be together. If a one-off change needs to be made to the days off due to the timing of an event we will give plenty of notice. Weekend and evening availability is required.
What you'll do
- Handle corporate and private event enquiries from first contact through to the event itself
- Liaise with customers, understand what they need, and keep them informed
- Prepare and send quotes
- Order ingredients and manage stock for events
- Prepare and cook catering for bookings
- Set up and prepare the catering trailer, and sometimes work on it during events
- Work café shifts at the Scottish Storytelling Centre, supporting the Café Manager and team
- Help grow the corporate and event side of the business
What you'll bring
- Experience in hospitality
- Some administration experience (handling enquiries, quotes and orders, MSExcel or similar)
- A full UK driving licence (automatic pool car provided by business)
- Good organisation and an eye for detail
- A genuine enjoyment of working with customers and as part of a team
- Comfort switching between tasks across a varied week
