About Us

Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy opened in January 1965 as The Blessed John Houghton Catholic School to provide a secondary Catholic education in the local area. The school has grown in size and reputation ever since. We are an 11-16 comprehensive school, providing education for girls and boys of all abilities and we pride ourselves on our inclusive nature. Saint John Houghton Catholic Voluntary Academy is proud to be part of the St Ralph Sherwin Catholic Multi Academy Trust.

Our aim is to deliver ‘world class’ education, opportunities, support and care for every child as unique children of God. We strive to ensure that the children in our care are loved, valued and supported and leave us as confident young adults ready for life in modern society, equipped with the skills necessary to survive and thrive in the world of today.

Jesus Christ is at the centre of our school and we strive to live by and teach the values of love, forgiveness, excellence, compassion and service to others. You will be responsible for:

Teaching classes, including planning, recording, assessing and meeting the social and learning needs of individual pupils
Maintaining the positive Catholic ethos and core values of the school
Fulfilling the professional responsibilities of a teacher and meeting the expectations set out in the Teachers’ Standards

If you are an enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher who is committed to getting the best outcomes for pupils then we want to hear from you. The successful candidate will be able to build effective working relationships with pupils, parents and colleagues and will adapt their teaching to meet the needs of all pupils.
