Failure Analysis Technician
The Product Group Team is responsible for the failure analysis of power semiconductor products. Failures may occur during product qualification, reliability testing, customer evaluation or field applications.
The Failure Analysis Technician supports the investigation of these failures by preparing samples, carrying out laboratory testing and operating analytical equipment. The role involves collecting and documenting test data to assist engineers in determining failure locations, mechanisms and root causes. Accurate and timely analysis supports continuous product improvement and enables clear technical feedback to both internal product development teams and customers.
Duties / Responsibilities

Support the failure analysis and physical analysis of power semiconductor module products.

Prepare samples for failure analysis using established procedures.

Carry out electrical, thermal and physical analysis under the guidance of engineers, using techniques such as cross-sectioning, SAM, SEM, X-Ray, EDX and other laboratory equipment.

Operate, maintain and calibrate laboratory and analytical equipment in accordance with company procedures.

Record, document and organise test results accurately and maintain laboratory records.

Assist with identifying failure locations and collecting data to support root cause investigations.

Support the preparation of failure analysis and RMA reports by providing test data, images and observations.

Ensure laboratory equipment, tools and work areas are maintained to a high standard of cleanliness and safety.

Assist with incoming returned product inspections and sample preparation.

Support engineers in reliability testing, process improvement activities and validation work.

Follow laboratory procedures, quality standards and health and safety requirements at all times.

Assist with customer sample processing and provide technical support data when required.
Skills / Experience Required
-
Experience working in a laboratory, manufacturing or semiconductor environment is desirable.

Experience operating laboratory or analytical equipment is advantageous.

Good practical skills with the ability to prepare and handle delicate samples.

Basic understanding of semiconductor devices, electronics or materials science is desirable.

Ability to follow technical procedures and work instructions accurately.

Good attention to detail and a methodical approach to work.
-
Competent in recording results and maintaining accurate documentation.

Good problem-solving skills and willingness to learn new techniques.

Able to prioritise workload and meet agreed deadlines.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
Education / Qualifications
-
HNC/HND, NVQ Level 3/4, BTEC, apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline.

A Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering or scientific discipline would be advantageous but is not essential.
