Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for a Lead Technician (Supervisor) to join out growing team in Brighton
As a Lead Technician you will assist the Senior Facilities Manager with mobilising the hard facilities management services to the University of Sussex while the new West Slope student accommodation is being built.
What you'll be doing
- To establish a new effective and competent team to deliver the pre-planned and reactive maintenance activities to the West Slope student accommodation development.
- Work in conjunction with the East Slope team to support a collaborative approach and support with ad-hoc requirements on East Slope as required by the business.
- To lead the coaching, training, and development of the maintenance team and ensure they are fully trained and competent.
- To be appointed as Authorised Person for relevant duties such as LV electrical,
mechanical and working at heights.
- To be on call as part of an established rota and attend call outs as necessary.
- To support the management, programming and completion of pre-planned maintenance tasks and ensure that all planned maintenance and require remedials are completed in a timely manner and the estate remains statutory compliant.
- To induct, check and supervise as necessary sub-contractors during the facilities
management operations phase to deliver both planned and reactive maintenance.
- To review RAMS and ensure they are suitable.
- To divide the working week between desk and “hands on” duties. 20/80 split.
- To approve purchase orders within the delegated financial limits for the role, good receipt and approve purchase orders, comfortable managing budgets and seek approvals and justification where necessary.
- To ensure that essential spares and stocks are maintained.
- To assist the management team in the development of reports during the construction period to:
o Witness the commissioning of the mechanical and electrical systems,
o Undertake snagging,
o Estate familiarisation
o To assist the development and delivery of training material to new staff
o Support with set up and maintain statutory records
- Provide management and oversight into the deployment of resources and tasks in line with the SLA’s and agreed working procedures.
- Assist in implementing changes in process, ways of working, and developments within the business as needed.
Who we're looking for
This is an M&E role so a bias to mechanical or electrical engineering will be required.
- Previous experience in managing small maintenance teams essential.
- Experience in student accommodation desirable.
- One of the following (Essential):
o BS 7671:2018 - 18th Edition or
o Plumbing and Domestic Heating qualification (C&G 6189 or equivalent)
- Dual AP Responsibilities – Desirable, or ability to achieve this.
- Good knowledge of UK Health and Safety legislation.
- Possesses full UK driving license.
- Ability to manage diverse works and associated supply chain activities.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- NVQ Level 3 plus City and Guilds 2360 Part 1 and 2 (or equivalent)
- City and Guilds 2394 & 2395 Inspection & Testing or City and Guilds 2391 Inspection & Testing
- Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations (1999) training
