EPUT is looking for an enthusiastic and passionate Consultant or NHS Locum Consultant Psychiatrist in Old Age to join Functional Intensive and Response Support Team (FIRST) and the Dementia Intensive Support Service (DISS) in Mid Essex. This FIRST team is based at the Crystal Centre, Broomfield , provide services mainly to the functional older adult patients above the age of 70, referred from the Mid Essex area for mental health disorders. The Dementia Intensive Support Service (DISS) is a partner team and the post holder will be required to provide consultant input to that service. Both teams function in much the same way, with the difference being FIRST see functional patients, and DISS see organic patients.
The successful candidate will be responsible for providing clinical leadership for the assessment and management of older adult patients, 70 years and above experiencing crisis in the catchment area. FIRST would accept referral via the phone and the referrer needs to have seen the patient face to face within 24 hours of the referral being made and the patient must have given their consent for the referral. The referral line is managed by a CPN- shift coordinator 8am to 8pm, 7 days a week.
The post holder is to be on the specialist register for Old Age Psychiatry or, in some circumstances, other subspecialties may be considered.
You must have full GMC registration and be on the Specialist Register, with an appropriate CCT or equivalent or be within six months of obtaining your CCT on the date of the AAC.

Provide clinical leadership and be the Responsible Clinician for the patients referred to the FIRST and DISS teams.
Review new patients in a timely manner and oversee the clinical management of patients in community for hospital avoidance and Crisis interventions.
Will be available for timely reviews and meetings and facilitate discharge planning to community or to escalate to an inpatient admission as a gatekeepers.
The post holder may need to attend MDT on inpatient units only for complex patients.
Be actively involved in supporting staff development and in effecting continual service improvement.
Provide clinical supervision to the SAS doctors.
Clinical Audit: The post holder will participate in audit to ensure the continuous improvement of the service.
The post holder will only be expected to provide cover for holidays and absences to colleagues with mutual consultation and agreement.
