St Peter's Court Nursing Home is looking for a reliable, skilled, and proactive Care Home Maintenance Operative to help maintain a safe, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our residents, visitors, and staff.
This is a varied, hands-on role that is vital to the smooth running of our nursing home. You will be responsible for carrying out maintenance, repairs, decorating, compliance checks, and grounds maintenance to ensure our home remains safe, compliant, and well-presented at all times.
Key ResponsibilitiesGeneral Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs throughout the nursing home.
- Respond promptly to maintenance requests and reported defects.
- Complete basic plumbing repairs and general maintenance tasks.
- Repair, assemble, and maintain furniture, fixtures, fittings, and door hardware.
- Replace door handles, locks, and other fittings as required.
- Undertake minor flooring repairs and lino fitting where necessary.
- Carry out painting and decorating to a high standard throughout the home.
Building & Grounds Maintenance
- Maintain the external areas of the home, including gardens, pathways, car parks, sheds, and waste storage areas.
- Carry out gardening duties and outdoor cleaning.
- Ensure all outdoor areas remain safe, tidy, and welcoming.
- Support seasonal maintenance including gritting and snow clearance when required.
Compliance & Health & Safety
- Conduct regular inspections of the building and identify maintenance requirements.
- Maintain compliance with Health & Safety and COSHH regulations.
- Complete and assist with risk assessments where required.
- Carry out routine fire alarm testing and maintain accurate records.
- Support fire drills and ensure maintenance records are accurate and up to date.
- Check emergency lighting and other safety systems in line with company procedures.
- Maintain maintenance records, compliance logs, and audit documentation.
Equipment & Facilities
- Carry out basic checks and maintenance of equipment and ventilation systems.
- Replace light bulbs and complete minor repairs to fixtures and fittings.
- Ensure the home's facilities remain in good working order.
Domestic Support
- Assist with domestic cleaning duties when required.
- Clean extractor fans, ventilation units, and associated equipment as part of planned maintenance schedules.
Team Working
- Work closely with the Home Manager and wider team to ensure maintenance issues are addressed promptly.
- Liaise professionally with contractors and suppliers when required.
- Contribute to creating a safe, comfortable, and homely environment for residents.
About You
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, has a practical approach to problem-solving, and understands the importance of maintaining a safe environment within a care setting.
Essential Requirements
- Minimum 1 year's experience in a maintenance, facilities, or handyman role.
- Valid UK driving licence and ability to drive for work purposes.
- Experience in painting and decorating.
- Ability to carry out basic plumbing repairs and general maintenance tasks.
- Experience assembling and repairing furniture.
- Experience replacing door handles, locks, and fittings.
- Experience with garden maintenance and outdoor cleaning.
- Good understanding of Health & Safety and COSHH requirements.
- Ability to maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
- Good communication and organisational skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Reliable, professional, and approachable manner.
Desirable
- Previous experience working within a care home, healthcare, or residential setting.
- Experience carrying out flooring repairs and lino fitting.
- Experience completing risk assessments.
- PAT Testing qualification or certification.
- Knowledge of fire safety procedures and compliance requirements.
