About the Role
Synergy Hire is seeking an experienced Technical Support Engineer – Machine Control & Safety Systems to support the installation, maintenance, calibration and troubleshooting of machine control and safety systems across our nationwide fleet and customer sites.
This role is ideal for a technically minded individual with experience in construction technology, surveying, machine control systems or construction plant engineering. The successful candidate will work closely with customers, manufacturers and internal departments to ensure equipment operates safely, efficiently and to the highest standards.
The role will involve regular travel throughout the UK and occasional overnight stays where required.
Key Responsibilities
Machine Control & Safety Systems
- Install, configure, calibrate and commission machine control systems including Trimble, Leica and Topcon.
- Install, maintain and troubleshoot safety systems including Xwatch, Safety Shield and associated technologies.
- Diagnose and resolve technical faults both remotely and on-site.
- Carry out software updates, system testing and performance checks.
- Ensure all installations and repairs are completed in accordance with manufacturer specifications.
Technical Support
- Provide technical assistance and guidance to customers and internal teams.
- Respond to technical enquiries and support requests in a professional and timely manner.
- Produce accurate service reports and documentation following visits.
Training & Development
- Deliver user training to customers on machine control and safety systems.
- Support the development and training of Synergy Hire employees on relevant technologies.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging products, software and industry developments.
Communication & Collaboration
- Maintain regular communication with the SCT Manager and Service Controllers regarding job progress and equipment status.
- Work collaboratively with depot teams, workshop personnel and operational staff.
- Build strong working relationships with customers and suppliers.
Health & Safety
- Carry out all work in accordance with Company Health & Safety procedures.
- Ensure compliance with manufacturer guidance and industry best practice.
- Promote a positive safety culture and challenge unsafe practices where identified.
- Maintain company vehicles, tools and equipment in a safe and serviceable condition.
Standards & Housekeeping
- Complete all work to a high standard and within agreed timescales.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
- Ensure accurate completion of service records and job documentation.
General Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for personal performance and continuous professional development.
- Participate in training and development activities as required.
- Undertake any other duties reasonably required by the Company consistent with the level of the role.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience
Essential
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Experience installing, maintaining or supporting construction technology systems, machine control systems or similar equipment.
- Strong technical fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
- Good understanding of GPS, GNSS, surveying or machine guidance technologies.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Strong IT literacy and ability to work with software-based systems.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload effectively.
- Willingness to travel nationally and stay away from home when required.
- Ability to work safely and effectively in a construction environment.
Desirable
- Experience with Trimble, Leica or Topcon machine control systems.
- Experience with Xwatch, Safety Shield or other safety technologies.
- Background in construction plant, civil engineering, surveying or geospatial technologies.
- CSCS, CPCS or relevant industry qualifications.
- Electrical or electronic diagnostic experience.
- Manufacturer accreditation or certification.
