A Solar Surveyor is responsible for conducting site assessments for residential and commercial solar photovoltaic (PV) installations. The role involves evaluating properties, gathering technical data, assessing structural suitability, identifying potential installation challenges, and producing accurate survey reports to support system design and installation teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct on-site surveys for solar PV and battery storage installations.
- Assess roof structures, orientations, pitch, dimensions, and condition.
- Identify shading issues from trees, buildings, chimneys, and other obstructions.
- Measure and record site dimensions using surveying equipment and software.
- Evaluate existing electrical infrastructure, including consumer units and meter locations.
- Identify suitable locations for inverters, batteries, and other system components.
- Take photographs and compile detailed survey documentation.
- Ensure surveys comply with relevant UK regulations, including MCS standards and Building Regulations.
- Liaise with customers to explain survey findings and installation requirements.
- Work closely with design, engineering, and installation teams to ensure accurate system designs.
- Highlight any health and safety concerns or access requirements.
- Maintain accurate records using CRM and surveying software.
Skills & Experience
Essential
- Experience with solar PV survey’s
- Good understanding of solar PV systems and battery storage technologies.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and site plans.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and mobile surveying applications.
- Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
- Experience with MCS-compliant solar installations.
- Knowledge of G98/G99 grid connection processes.
- Electrical qualifications (e.g. Level 3 Electrotechnical, 18th Edition).
- Working at Height awareness.
- Knowledge of drone-based surveying techniques.
- Experience using design software such as OpenSolar, Easy PV, or SolarEdge Designer.
- Experience of ASHP survey’s
Working Conditions
- Combination of field-based site visits and office/home-based report preparation.
- Regular travel throughout assigned regions.
- Occasional roof access and work at height assessments.
Use of ladders, drones, measuring equipment, and mobile surveying technology
Pay: £24,784.50-£27,000.00 per year
