Faculty

The Department of Optometry is two years into a new innovative four-year undergraduate Masters in Optometry to replace the current three-year Batchelors in Optometry course.

We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join us as an Assistant Professor (Grade 9) in Optometry and as an Assistant or Associate Professor in Optometry (Grade 9/10 depending on experience) to make significant contributions to the implementation of our new teaching and learning strategy, and/or academic research. The ideal candidates will have clinical as well as academic expertise and a track record of research in optometry and related topics although candidates with a more clinical and/or teaching focus will also be considered.

What you will be doing:

The postholder will:

Undertake research informed teaching and teaching related activities, to be agreed with the Head of Department.
Plan, deliver and assess innovative, engaging and challenging teaching activities which provide a distinctive and exceptional student experience.
Ensure teaching is research-led with subject content underpinned by relevant specialist research.

Qualifications/ experience:

PhD (or equivalent) in optometry, or a relevant subject area OR an Honours degree (or equivalent) in optometry or a related degree, coupled with registration with the General Optical Council.
Candidates for the Associate Professor role will be expected to possess a PhD (or equivalent) in optometry, or a relevant subject area.
Registration with the General Optical Council is preferred but not mandatory.
Advance HE fellow or a Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education Practice, or a commitment to obtaining this following appointment.
