Reporting to the Fabric technical manager, the Fabric Technologist will be responsible for the fabric development including lab dip approval.
Working with the Design and Commercial teams on all manner of Fabric projects, for existing clients and new business pitches. Liaising with the supply base to obtain sampling in support of such projects
Monitoring and approving pre-production fabric, liaising with designers and technical teams on fabric performance and testing, and maintaining effective communication on all technical aspects of the fabric specification required.
Working closely with account managers and designers developing fabrics from concept through to final approval ensuring the critical path is kept on schedule.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Manage Tender requirements for fabric technical information, instruct sample lengths in a timely manner for Tender submission
- Quality and shade matching of all supplier fabric submissions against group master standards.
- Create & maintain Fabric standards & continuity library, inc liaison of results to manufacturing base.
- Liaise with suppliers to obtain costings and development samples. Manage critical path key dates with suppliers
- Action and follow through lab dips, handlooms and samples requests with suppliers
- Liaise with Commercial team keeping them updated on projects

- Co-ordinate the physical collation of tender response submissions.
- Administer due diligence checks on fabrics
Knowledge, Skills and Experience Required
- Experience in fabric testing procedures.
- Technical knowledge and strong practical skills.
- The ability to identify and analyze a wide range of materials.
- Some knowledge of chemical treatments used to make garments water, stain and fire resistant is required.
- Problem-solving skills and decision-making ability
- Previous experience in the corporate clothing and Retail markets
- Previous experience of maintain fabric standards to commercial requirements.
- Ability to work as part of a team and to liaise with colleagues in other functions within the business.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to prioritise and to switch between different tasks as required.
- Organizational skills
- An understanding of computer technology within the industry
