Clerk of Works – Bolton Abbey Estate
We are seeking an experienced and practical Clerk of Works to join our Buildings team, reporting to the Building Manager. This is a key role responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and high-quality delivery of maintenance, refurbishment, and construction activities across a varied and historically significant estate.
You will play a vital role in maintaining high standards across our buildings while balancing heritage sensitivity, sustainability, and modern compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities
Property & Project Management:
· Oversee reactive and planned maintenance, refurbishment, compliance works, and capital projects across the estate.
· Use property management systems to manage repairs, maintenance, and compliance records.
· Liaise with tenants and occupiers, including recharging costs where appropriate.
· Appoint and coordinate external consultants (e.g. architects, engineers, planners).
· Prepare specifications, drawings, and tender documents for construction projects.
· Monitor works for quality, safety, value for money, and compliance.
· Manage defects periods and ensure issues are resolved promptly.
· Provide technical input on feasibility, design, and planning compliance.
· Support maintenance of the estate’s private water supply.
· Promote and incorporate sustainable building practices.
Health & Safety:
· Appoint contractors in line with approval processes and ensure appropriate contracts (e.g. JCT) are in place.
· Ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and wider H&S legislation.
· Review Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS).
· Maintain compliance with Devonshire Group H&S systems.
Finance:
· Manage procurement processes, including tendering and contractor selection.
· Ensure purchase orders and contracts are in place.
· Monitor progress against budgets and project timelines.
· Assist with budgeting and financial reporting.

Pay: £40,000.00 per year
