About Alan Marshall Tutoring
Alan Marshall Tutoring is an online maths tutoring business based in Scotland, serving students from P7 through Advanced Higher. We deliver live group classes via Zoom and run a thriving community platform for students and families. Our teaching is built around the Marshall Maths Method, with a core philosophy that good tutoring makes itself obsolete.
We are a growing team of around 20 staff and are tracking toward a significant revenue milestone this year. We are building out our class delivery capacity and need someone with genuine subject expertise and teaching experience to help us maintain and grow the quality of what we offer.
Experience in the English curriculum as well is a bonus and would broaden the scope of the role significantly.
The Role
This is a part-time role with two distinct areas of responsibility: curriculum oversight, and live class delivery at exam level.
You do not need to be a fully qualified teacher. We are open to applications from those currently in teacher training, those who have taught previously, or experienced tutors with a strong track record at the relevant levels. What matters most is that you know the Scottish curriculum inside out and that you can translate that knowledge into engaging, well-paced live teaching.
We have an existing team who handle the creation of slides, worksheets, quizzes, and assessments. Your role on the curriculum side is to oversee that output, ensure it is accurate and appropriately pitched, and provide expert guidance to the team producing it.
What You Will Be Doing:
Curriculum Oversight (all levels)
- Overseeing the quality and accuracy of curriculum materials across all class streams from P7 through to Advanced Higher
- Reviewing slides, worksheets, quizzes, and assessments produced by the content team and providing clear, expert feedback
- Ensuring all materials are correctly aligned to the Scottish curriculum at each level
- Identifying gaps or inaccuracies in existing materials and flagging them to the relevant team members
- Acting as the subject matter expert the content team can refer to when they need guidance
- Collaborating with the founder on curriculum direction and quality standards
Live Class Delivery (exam levels)
- Delivering live group classes via Zoom at National 5, Higher, and Advanced Higher level (including Higher Applications of Maths)
- Beginning with a shadowing period to understand the Marshall Maths Method in practice before leading classes independently
- Maintaining the pace, tone, and quality standard expected across all Alan Marshall Tutoring classes
- Responding to student questions and engagement during live sessions
- Working closely with the founder on lesson structure and delivery approach
What We Are Looking For:
Essential
- Strong subject knowledge across the Scottish curriculum from P7 to Advanced Higher
- Experience teaching or tutoring maths, whether in school, through a training programme, or privately
- Confident delivering maths to exam-level students in a live setting
- Able to review and give clear, constructive feedback on teaching materials
- Reliable and organised, able to work to deadlines without needing to be chased
- Comfortable working remotely as part of a small, growing team
Desirable
- Experience with or knowledge of the English curriculum (GCSE and Key Stage 3)
- Experience delivering online classes
- Experience in a quality assurance or curriculum review capacity
What You Will Get
- A flexible part-time role that works around other commitments
- A meaningful curriculum oversight role with real influence on teaching quality
- Direct involvement in live class delivery at a high level
- A clear route to increased hours as the business grows
- Competitive hourly rate, commensurate with experience
