Optical Receptionist / Optical Assistant – Roberts Opticians, Dukinfield
Part‑time: 4 days per week (including occasional Saturdays)
Salary: £13.00–£14.50 per hour depending on experience, with higher rates available for experienced Optical Assistants
Roberts Opticians is a family‑run, independent practice in the heart of Dukinfield.
We pride ourselves on offering personalised care, a welcoming atmosphere, and high‑quality optical services. We are now looking for a friendly, organised and enthusiastic Optical Receptionist / Optical Assistant to join our close‑knit team.
This role is ideal for someone with strong healthcare reception experience or existing optical experience. For those joining at receptionist level, there is an option to progress into an Optical Assistant role if suitable, with full support and training provided.
Experienced Optical Assistants will attract a higher starting salary and the opportunity to work in a more patient‑centred, relationship‑focused environment.
About the Role
You will be the welcoming face of the practice and play a key part in ensuring patients receive an excellent experience. Responsibilities include:
- Greeting patients and providing a warm, professional first point of contact
- Managing reception duties including booking appointments, answering calls, and handling enquiries
- Supporting the optometrist and wider team with day‑to‑day practice tasks
- Using practice management software and maintaining accurate patient records
- Helping to keep the practice tidy, organised, and welcoming
For those with optical experience, responsibilities may also include:
- Dispensing spectacles
- Advising patients on frames, lenses, and products
- Supporting clinical procedures
- Providing a high standard of patient care

Essential Criteria
We are looking for someone who has:
- Reception experience in a healthcare setting (essential)
- Optical experience (preferred but not essential)
- A friendly, approachable manner with excellent communication skills
- Computer literacy and confidence using practice software
- Flexibility to work occasional Saturdays when required
- A positive attitude and willingness to learn and support the team
