Job Overview
We are seeking a motivated Apprentice HGV Mechanic to join our team. This paid apprenticeship offers a valuable opportunity to develop essential skills in vehicle maintenance and repair, specialising in heavy goods vehicles such as lorries and large agricultural vehicles. The role involves hands-on training in mechanical and electrical systems, with a focus on safety, quality, and customer service. Ideal candidates will demonstrate a keen interest in vehicle mechanics, possess strong problem-solving abilities, and be eager to learn within a supportive environment.
Responsibilities
- Assist with the maintenance, inspection, and repair of HGVs, including lorries and trailers
- Support the diagnosis of mechanical and electrical faults using schematics and diagnostic tools
- Learn to operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment, and fabrication machinery safely and effectively
- Participate in assembly and disassembly of vehicle components during repairs or upgrades
- Conduct basic electrical work
- Assist with equipment repair and routine maintenance tasks to ensure vehicles meet safety standards
- Support heavy lifting operations using appropriate lifting equipment while adhering to health and safety protocols
- Maintain a clean and organised workshop environment to promote safety and efficiency
Experience
- No prior experience necessary; however, candidates should possess a strong interest in mechanical systems and vehicle maintenance
- Basic knowledge of mechanical principles or previous exposure to fabrication, welding, or electrical work is advantageous
- Familiarity with hand tools, power tools, or schematics is beneficial but not essential as training will be provided
- Physical ability to perform heavy lifting and work in various environmental conditions
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail and safety procedures are highly valued

Driving license is desirable but not essential.
