Forte Engineering is a specialist rail engineering consultancy and principal contractor delivering electrical, mechanical, telecoms and civil engineering solutions across the UK rail infrastructure. We provide design, construction and engineering assurance services to Network Rail, HS1, Transport for Wales, train operators and principal contractors.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking an enthusiastic and technically capable Rail Electrical Project Engineer to join our engineering team. Based in our East Kilbride with travel required throughout the UK in line with project requirements.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will support the delivery of electrical engineering projects from feasibility through detailed design, construction and commissioning. Working within multidisciplinary project teams, you will be responsible for producing and reviewing engineering designs, managing technical interfaces, supporting construction activities and ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and relevant legislation.
This role offers an excellent opportunity for career progression within a growing engineering business. Experience as a Network Rail CRE (Construction or Design) would be advantageous but is not essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver electrical engineering solutions for railway infrastructure projects.
- Prepare and review electrical design documentation, calculations, specifications and drawings.
- Support the development of GRIP/PACE and construction-stage engineering deliverables.
- Coordinate technical interfaces with civils, telecoms, signalling and mechanical disciplines.
- Attend site surveys, inspections and technical meetings.
- Provide engineering support during installation, testing and commissioning.
- Ensure designs comply with Network Rail standards, BS7671 and relevant industry legislation.
- Support production of Work Package Plans, Engineering Management Plans and design assurance documentation.
- Manage technical queries, design changes and engineering risks throughout project delivery.
- Liaise with clients, suppliers and subcontractors to ensure successful project delivery.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and development of engineering standards within the business.
Essential Requirements
- Degree, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience delivering electrical engineering projects within the rail industry.
- Good understanding of Network Rail engineering standards and processes.
- Knowledge of LV distribution, lighting, small power, earthing and bonding systems.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong communication and organisational skills.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness to travel to project sites across the UK.
Desirable Skills & Experience
- Experience as a Network Rail Construction CRE or Design CRE.
- Knowledge of HV distribution systems.
- Experience with station, depot or lineside electrical infrastructure.
- Knowledge of AutoCAD, Amtech/Trimble ProDesign, Dialux or similar engineering software.
- Membership of the IET and working towards Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status.
- PTS, SMSTS or IOSH qualifications.

Pay: £45,000.00-£55,000.00 per year
