Full job description

Job Summary

As a member of the team, you will be a qualified physiotherapist able to provide direct clinical care that encompasses physiotherapy assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management and planned discharge of patients with life limiting illness.

With support from senior staff you will deliver the physiotherapy service to a caseload of patients in the community, in-patient unit (IPU) or online.

The therapist will work closely with other members of the hospice team to provide a comprehensive, enablement service to meet individual need. This requires resilience, effective communication skills and adherence to confidentiality and record keeping guidance.

Main Responsibilities

Reporting to the Clinical Manager and supervised by Senior Physiotherapists, the post holder will -

Be responsible for the assessment, Physiotherapy diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and planned discharge of patients in your care. This involves evaluating progress, altering treatment programmes, and referring to appropriate professions as required to maximise rehabilitation potential.
Manage a caseload of patients efficiently and effectively.
Liaise with senior physiotherapy staff to ensure support and advice is available to assist management of a caseload.
Actively participate in the multi-disciplinary team to ensure integration of the Physiotherapy treatment into the individual patient’s overall treatment programmes.
Take responsibility for your education including knowledge of local and national clinical guidelines and standards, published research, and audits to ensure clinical practice is evidence-based. Report any learning needs to your supervisor.
Take responsibility for your own health and safety.
Report any areas of concern to your supervisor.
Provide patient education and participate in professional education.
Delegate appropriate tasks and supervise HCSW to maximise treatment outcomes.
Complete any patient statistics or data collection for audit as required by the line manager.
Work as an autonomous practitioner within physiotherapy codes of practice and professional guidelines.
Use equipment safely to assess and treat patients
Maintain up to date records of assessment, treatment and outcome for individual patients.
Refer to other professionals, and complete any multidisciplinary paperwork where appropriate.
Adhere to hospice administrative systems.

Education / Qualifications

Diploma/BSc/MSc Physiotherapy - E
Current (or pending) Health Care Professions Council registration - E
Wide range of clinical and non-clinical experience transferrable to this post - D

Knowledge/Experience

Range of clinical experience within NHS or equivalent setting - E
Relevant work experience (placement, voluntary, working) - D
Evidence of good baseline clinical knowledge -E
Ability to demonstrate clinical reasoning - E
Provide examples of evidence based practice and autonomous working - E
Understanding of Ayrshire Hospice mission, vision and values - D
