The Opportunity:
As a Coil Operator, you will be responsible for the safe, efficient, and high-quality production of coils in line with customer and business requirements. You will operate machinery, follow detailed work instructions, monitor product quality, and ensure production targets are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain a strong focus on health, safety, and quality at all times
- Follow all risk assessments, safe systems of work, and procedures
- Use PPE correctly and consistently
- Ensure a clean, safe, and organised workspace
- Escalate any safety concerns and stop production if required
- Produce coils to required specifications and quality standards
- Carry out in-process and final inspections
- Identify and report defects or non-conformances
- Support corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives
- Minimise waste and optimise material usage
- Set up machinery and produce first-off samples for approval
- Operate machinery (including hand taping) in line with procedures
- Perform changeovers efficiently to minimise downtime
- Carry out routine cleaning, checks, and basic maintenance
- Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
- Ensure correct materials are used for each job
- Handle materials and finished products safely
- Work collaboratively with team members and supervisors
- Accurately complete production and quality records
- Clearly communicate progress, issues, and concerns
- Contribute to process and efficiency improvements
- Participate in training and development opportunities
- Build knowledge of industry practices and new technologies
Your skills and experiences:
Essential Requirements
- GCSE (or equivalent) in Maths and English
- Experience setting and operating machinery
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately
- Understanding of health & safety in a manufacturing environment
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Strong numeracy and measurement skills
- Experience using micrometers, Vernier calipers, and gauges
Desirable (but not essential)
- Experience in coil manufacturing or hand taping
- Previous production, manufacturing, or assembly experience
- Basic quality inspection knowledge
- Awareness of lean manufacturing principles
