Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Trainee HGV Mechanic to join our team. This entry-level position offers an excellent opportunity to develop specialised skills in heavy vehicle maintenance and repair. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience working with a range of equipment, tools, and systems, contributing to the efficient operation of our road lining fleet. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about mechanical work and eager to learn within a supportive environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the inspection, diagnosis, and repair of heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) including lorries and trailers
- Support fabrication and welding tasks to modify or repair vehicle components
- Use hand tools, power tools, and equipment to carry out maintenance activities
- Read and interpret schematics and technical diagrams for electrical and mechanical systems
- Perform basic electrical work such as soldering and wiring repairs
- Contribute to assembly and disassembly of vehicle parts during repair processes
- Conduct equipment repairs on machinery such as excavators and forklifts as required
- Assist with routine maintenance tasks to ensure vehicles meet safety standards
- Support team members in heavy lifting and manoeuvring of vehicle parts or equipment
- Maintain a clean, organised workspace adhering to health and safety protocols
Experience
- No prior experience necessary; training will be provided on all aspects of the role
- Willingness to learn about heavy vehicle systems and maintenance procedures
- Basic understanding of mechanical principles or previous exposure to fabrication, welding, or electrical work is advantageous
- Familiarity with schematics, hand tools, power tools, or assembly processes is beneficial but not essential
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail
- Ability to perform physical tasks including heavy lifting and working in various environmental conditions
- Good communication skills with a focus on customer service when interacting with team members or clients
