Position: Animal Care Technician

Contract: Part-Time - Annualised

Hours: 200 annualised hours by arrangement with the school

Salary: HC4 - £13.05-13.47 per hour

Closing Date: 1st July 2026

Interview Date: Week commencing 6th July 2026

Start Date: As soon as possible

We are looking to recruit an Animal Care Technician to join our team at Earl Mortimer College. You will be required to maintain a high level of animal welfare at weekends, bank holidays and during school holidays.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum placing significant importance on cultural capital alongside academic achievement.

Tasks for the role will include:

· Ensuring cages, pens, trays, equipment and fittings are kept clean

· Providing fresh food and water for the animals

· Handling and moving the animals safely

· Checking the animal’s environment (temperature / humidity checks)

· Monitoring the condition of animals and reporting any concerns

· Ordering, collecting and distributing food stock including hay, straw and locusts

· Liaising closely with the Science Faculty team

Earl Mortimer College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful candidate will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced check and further pre-employment checks will be conducted in accordance with KCSIE. The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 and the School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
