Full job description

We are seeking bank staff in both the Royal School for the Blind and Rushton Futures, this gives opportunities to work throughout the year, including school holidays.

The Royal School for the Blind

We are an outstanding, non-profit, non-maintained special school. We educate and care for pupils with special, visual, sensory, and complex needs aged 2-19.  We also offer an after-school club, parental support, and intervention support for our pupils. We have a strong multi-disciplinary team including occupational therapy, habilitation, physiotherapy, nursing, speech and language, music therapy and other specialists. All of our staff are highly trained including qualified teachers of the visually impaired, MSI teachers, habilitation and other specialisms. Our facilities, adapted environment and grounds are carefully adapted to meet the needs of our pupils and young adults. All this ensures a focus on independence, with a team around the child approach.

A few key tasks:

- To carry out School policies, practices and to uphold the school’s vision and reputation.

- To attend, under the direction of the Class Teacher to the physical, medical, intellectual, social and emotional needs of the young person to which they are designated.

- To create a supportive atmosphere in which the young person can achieve maximum independence and mobility around the site.

- To participate in class activities as delegated including swimming, sports, community access and help to make resources as required. These may be on or off site.

Rushton Futures

Rushton Futures is a structured day service for young adults, typically aged 19 and over, who are described as having complex needs, including visual impairment, learning disabilities and additional health requirements. Our service was established to address a clear gap in provision, ensuring that individuals leaving education continue to receive the personalised, high-quality support they need to thrive.

You will support Rushton Futures to meet service outcomes and statutory requirements by:

- Being part of a staff team who provide support to young adults on a one-to-one basis or within a group setting following their care file to meet their personalised care needs.

- Supporting with activities on and off-site to facilitate person-centred activities with an individualised approach.

- Being flexible to work with different groups of young adults within a staff rotation model across different sites and within the community.
