An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Team MWL as a Trainee (Apprentice) Senior Library Assistant in our Library and Knowledge Service based at Whiston Hospital.
This is a 27 month fixed term training post of 22.5 hours per week. On successful completion of the Apprenticeship programme, you will become Senior Library Assistant on Band 4.
As an apprenticeship this role is supported by an accompanying assessment and skills development programme, during which the post holder will gain the skills and knowledge relevant for this role. Learning will be a mix of in the workplace, formal on and off the job training, and the opportunity to practise new skills in a real work environment. On successful completion of their Apprenticeship, they will have the right knowledge, skills, and behaviours they need for their chosen role.
Pay will follow Annex 21 guidelines, you will receive 65% of the top of band 4

Key Duties
Manage the online current awareness service. This includes setting up information feeds, monitoring websites and categorising and disseminating relevant information to library customers.
Add content to the Library and Knowledge Service website and ensure it is kept up to date.
Regularly develop content for promoting library services and resources and engage with Trust staff, including social media, outreach activities and displays.
Manage the Wellbeing Knowledge Box service to deliver resources to wards and departments.
IT
Use a wide variety of IT packages including Microsoft Office, library management system, website management system, information retrieval systems.
Help users in accessing library IT systems including the LKS website, library catalogue and online information resources.
Liaise with outside agencies providing library and knowledge systems to resolve technical issues.
User Support and Training
Undertake enquiry desk duties - answering or triaging enquires, using the library management system, enrolling new members and providing a brief introduction to the service.
Take part in induction for new library users. This may include formal presentations, attending events or ad hoc sessions within the library.
Deliver basic training in the use of library facilities, services and online resources.
Develop user training guides.
Provide assistance/troubleshooting to library users experiencing difficulties with PCs and printers, referring complex problems to the relevant personnel.
Administration
Contribute to the day to day management of library services by attending meetings, liaising with other staff and deputising as appropriate within agreed guidelines.
Administration of NHS OpenAthens accounts.
Administration of NHS Holdings Management to manage online resources.
Collect and collate statistics for library activity, user needs surveys and impact assessments.
Operate document delivery and interlibrary loan services. This will include bibliographic verification, location of the most cost-effective provider, management of the ILL budget, liaising with colleagues in other Trust library services, electronic data transfer, and managing copyright legislation.
Assist in the selection, purchase and cataloguing of new materials.
Take an active role in changing, developing and implementing local library policies and procedures in conjunction with other library staff members
Clinical & Professional Responsibilities
Ensure adherence to information-related legislation including copyright and data protection.
Stay apprised of health library developments and legislation, attending appropriate courses and conferences and acquiring new skills as appropriate.
Take an active role in building partnerships with the Library and Information Health Network Northwest and relevant networks.
