Full job description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Mechanical Design and Development Engineer to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and improving mechanical components and systems, from concept through to production. There will be a strong emphasis on injection moulding, material finishing and metal pressing processes. This role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including production, quality, and procurement to ensure innovative, cost-effective, and manufacturable solutions.

This role includes a technical allowance of up to £2,116 per annum, dependent on your qualifications.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, and systems using 3D CAD software (e.g., Creo).
Technical Documentation: Produce technical drawings, assembly drawings, bills of materials (BOMs), and supporting documentation.
Conduct design reviews, tolerance analysis, and FMEA to ensure product reliability and performance.
Prototype and test new designs, analyze results, and iterate as needed.
Collaborate with manufacturing teams, to ensure designs are optimized for production.
Compliance: Test and verify all designs to ensure compliance with relevant safety standards, primarily IEC 60335-1, and adherence to recognised engineering best practices.
Support product lifecycle activities including design changes, cost reduction, and quality improvements.
Maintain accurate documentation and revision control in accordance with company standards.
Stay up to date with industry trends, materials, and manufacturing technologies.

Qualifications:

HND/HNC in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Experience in Mechanical Design and Development, preferably in a Manufacturing Environment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software and engineering analysis tools.
Understanding of materials, manufacturing processes, and mechanical systems.
Understanding of surface finish, tolerances, and post-processing for moulded and pressed parts.
Experience with prototyping, testing, and validation.

Desirable Skills:

Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
Ability to work on multiple projects and meet deadlines.
Attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Experience with PLM systems and ERP integration would be an advantage (SAP preferred).
