Role Summary:
We have an exciting opportunity for an individual to join Nidec Drives as EHS Director.
This role is critical to strengthening governance, regulatory compliance and risk management across our global Drives operations.
The scale, complexity and geographic spread of our operational footprint require clear authority and consistent leadership to set standards, ensure disciplined execution, and embed a strong safety and compliance culture across all regions.
The EHS Director directly supports our strategic priorities by ensuring compliance with statutory and Nidec requirements, while proactively reducing operational risk through robust audit programmes, effective corrective actions, and disciplined incident investigation.
This role is key for business continuity, ensuring sites are prepared to manage and mitigate operational disruptions.
Key Job Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the EHS Director consist of but are not limited to:
- To recommend tactical and operational strategies that will directly impact the achievement of overall business unit.
- Directs the execution of strategies established by functional and/or executive leadership
- Establishes operational plans with short- to mid-term impact on results.
- To hold and maintain a high degree of responsibility for resources and frequently influences business decisions made by senior leadership.
- Typically, responsible for moderate revenue and/or expenditures in multiple areas or over multiple teams with moderate oversight, with signature authority.
- To communicates with parties within and outside of own business unit and typically has responsibilities for communicating with external parties.
- Works to promote business unit’s view/practices and inform staff on new concepts, practices and approaches.
- Ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization
Qualifications & Experience Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional certification
- Typically has mastery within a specific technical or broad expertise across multiple related disciplines
- Requires advanced management and leadership knowledge to lead cross-department project teams
- Proven experience within a related environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication
Employees must be able to:
1. Understand emergency instruction
2. Read safety signage and hazard warnings
3. Communicate effectively in specific situations (e.g. fire evacuation)
Travel Requirements
This role will be based at our main site in Newtown, Wales. However, it will also support our site in Telford, Shropshire and so reliable travel to this site as necessary will also be required.
