About this role
The School of Applied Sciences within the College of Health, Science and Society is seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Human Genetics and Molecular Cell Biology to support our undergraduate and postgraduate Biological and Biomedical Science programmes. This is a fulltime, fixed-term position requires the post holder to deliver excellence in teaching on both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, together with other related academic roles, including module leadership, and supervision of student projects.
The School of Applied Sciences runs BSc (Honours), MSci and MSc programmes including in Biomedical Science, Biological Science, Environmental Science, Forensic Science, and related areas. Research within the School is supported by the Centre for Biomedical Research (CBR), the Institute of Biosensing Technology (IBST), the Science Communication Unit (SCU) and the Centre for Sustainable Agri-Food and Environment (SAFE) . About you
We are seeking to recruit a Senior Lecturer in Human Genetics and Molecular Cell Biology to support our highly regarded Biological and Biomedical science courses. Candidates will be expected to have at least a PhD in a relevant subject aligned to this area and ideally experience as a senior lecturer and as a module leader.
Preference will be given to applicants who can evidence excellence and expertise in Human Genetics and Molecular Cell Biology (ideally including Genomics) teaching and research, as well as experience of successfully supporting undergraduate and postgraduate research projects in a higher education context.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to teaching and assessing on our Biomedical and Biological science programs. Candidates who can evidence a good understanding of research and practical skills and a good understanding of the theory and practical application of human genetics and molecular cell biology, and a basic working knowledge of bioinformatics, NCBI and primer design, will be preferred. An ability to acknowledge and communicate employability-related skills would be an advantage.
The successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate experience of devising and delivering stimulating teaching and inclusive assessments; they will demonstrate the ability to lead modules well and successfully supervise student research projects. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the continuous improvement of our Biomedical and Biological programmes. The post holder may also be required to support teaching teams on other related programmes within the School of Applied Sciences.

The successful candidate will be supported in this role by an experienced senior lecturer or associate professor in research as a mentor (as appropriate). The School of Applied Sciences provides staff development funds to support personal and subject-related training for academic staff.
