Job summary

It is a very exciting time to join us as we continue on a major digital transformation programme. Our existing systems form part of the critical national infrastructure, safeguarding land and property ownership valued at £7 trillion, enabling over £1 trillion worth of personal and commercial lending to be secured against property across England and Wales.

Given the scale of change we are seeking two Lead Technical Architects (Software) who can understand the magnitude of the challenge, taking a top down view to identify the things we need to change but still getting close to the tech and delivery aspects of architecture.

These roles will join our Architecture Practice which a vibrant and welcoming team. The practice includes architects with different specialisms (Enterprise architecture, Security architecture, Platform architecture etc). Collectively we support each other to enable HMLR to deliver modern, secure and sustainable technology based solutions.

Job description

Were looking for someone who enjoys solving complex challenges and working collaboratively within an agile team. Youll support the delivery of technical solutions across multiple workstreams, working with stakeholders to understand needs and translate them into clear, practical outcomes.

Youll help shape strategies and roadmaps, balancing priorities across product, delivery and architecture to ensure solutions align with our wider technology, architecture and business goals. From concept through to delivery, youll take ownership of problems, bring clarity to ambiguity and support the successful implementation of solutions.

Working with the Technical Design Authority, youll promote high-quality, secure and compliant design, while building strong relationships with suppliers, partners and wider government organisations. Youll also share your expertise, support others to develop and keep up to date with emerging technologies to help drive continuous improvement.

HMLR expect everyone to spend at least 60% of their working time in the office.

Person specification

Technical:

Youll need to be comfortable as a technology leader working amongst teams who build and operate software-based systems. The desirable technical criteria in the job description explains some of the technology currently used at HMLR. However, technology isn't standing still, we need Lead Technical Architects who can embrace change and understand the opportunities (and risks) its presents HM Land Registry (HMLR).

Experience:

Youll bring experience of designing and delivering software-based solutions to complex problems, including within large-scale projects. Youll be confident assessing the impact of technical change across people, process, technology and information, with an understanding of commercial considerations.

Youll demonstrate strong analytical and structured thinking skills, using appropriate approaches to break down complex issues. Experience of working with suppliers, alongside the ability to lead, support and develop others, is important.

Youll also be adaptable and organised, able to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to change.

Selection process details

This vacancy is using Success Profiles , and will assess your Experience and Technical skills.

Developing solutions to complex problems through software/application design.
Experience of designing for large projects (£1m +) and seeing those designs through delivery
