Associate Clinical Research Practitioners (ACRPs) play a key role in our Trust’s strategy to deliver innovative mental health research. This post is funded by the Greater Manchester Regional Research Delivery Network (RRDN) to improve and facilitate recruitment of GMMH service users, their families, carers and staff to high quality mental health research studies on the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) portfolio.
Our Research and Innovation (R&I) department includes 11 research units ( Our Research Units | Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS FT ) led by world-leading researchers specialised in a wide range of clinical areas (for example psychosis, psychological trauma, digital interventions, youth mental health, amongst other mental health specialties). The mission of our research units is to conduct innovative studies and clinical trials that aim to improve the care provided by the NHS to people with lived experience of mental health problems as well as their families and carers. The post-holder will work with GMMH research units and clinical teams across many GMMH services to maximise participant recruitment to NIHR portfolio studies led by our research units utilising new and established systems and processes.
The post holder will be a key member of the GMMH R&I team, providing ongoing support to our established GMMH research units to enable effective recruitment to clinical research studies related to the research units across the GMMH footprint. The main responsibilities of the post holder will be to liaise with local clinical teams to ensure they are aware of our active research studies and help clinicians in making referrals to studies that best fit service users in their caseload. This often involves supporting clinical teams in reviewing their caseload to identify suitable participants, contribute to multi-disciplinary meetings to ensure clinical teams continue to offer opportunities for participating in research to GMMH service users in line with the NHS Constitution, and approaching potential participants on behalf of clinical teams to offer them information about our research and support them in enrolling in studies that are most suited to them.
Greater Manchester Mental Health (GMMH) Foundation Trust employs over 7000 members of staff, who deliver services from more than 122 locations.
We provide inpatient and community-based mental health care for people living in Bolton, the city of Manchester, Salford, Trafford and the borough of Wigan, and a wide range of specialist mental health and substance misuse services across Greater Manchester, the north west of England and beyond.
Greater Manchester is one of the world's most innovative, original and exciting places to live and work. From the beauty of the surrounding countryside to the heart of the vibrant inner city with great shopping, entertainment and dining options.
Wherever you go you will experience a great northern welcome with people famed for their warmth, humour and generosity.
Our people enjoy their work, have opportunities to learn and develop their skills and are encouraged to generate new ideas that improve care for our service users.
Post holders will be expected to participate fully in their personal development and review process in order to achieve the objectives for this post. For example, ACRP posts provide excellent opportunities to develop skills in working across many GMMH services and with diverse service user populations, become familiar with a broad portfolio of research studies involving cutting edge methodologies and innovative psychological/mental health treatments, and receive training in research and clinical assessments procedures, building on past knowledge and experience that post holders would have developed as part of previous roles and their University degree.
Although based at the Central Park (Newton Heath), post holders will be required to work across GMMH clinical services, involving frequent travel and in person visits with clinical teams and service users across the entire footprint of the Trust. This role is an excellent development opportunity for someone who is interested in a career in research or clinical psychology.
