Butchers understand how to weigh and portion cuts of different kinds of meat. They are usually able to use equipment such as meat grinders, saws and other tools to break down meat into portions. Butchers are responsible for creating eye-catching displays in order to make their products enticing to customers from carcase to plate. Salary is awarded on your ability, effort and performance above the standard apprenticeship wage.
A Butcher Apprentice will learn how to:
- Prepare, trim, weigh and price up meat;
- Cut and bone a carcase;
- Package meat and store it correctly;
- They will be discussing different cuts with customers, including how to cook and safely store them;
- Always keeping their working environment safe and storing meat in accordance with health and safety legislation;
- Maintain business records and budgets.
Hours: 30.00 per week

On successful completion of the course, you could progress to the Level 3 Advanced Butcher apprenticeship. You could also achieve a permanent employment contract.
