About the role:

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Cyber Security Apprentice to support the Technology & Digital Services (TDS) function in maintaining and improving the organisation’s cybersecurity capability.

This role provides hands-on experience across cyber security operations, governance, risk management, architecture, and security assurance. The successful candidate will work alongside internal technology teams and external partners to support day-to-day security activities, contribute to security improvement initiatives, and develop foundational technical and professional skills within a fast-paced renewable energy environment.

Responsibilities:

Support the monitoring and triage of cyber security alerts and incidents
Assist with endpoint security and vulnerability management activities
Support user access reviews and identity security processes
Assist with security investigations and evidence gathering
Contribute to phishing awareness and wider cyber security awareness initiatives

Governance, risk & compliance:

Support maintenance of cyber security documentation, standards, and procedures
Assist with supplier security assurance and due diligence activities
Support risk assessment and risk tracking processes
Help maintain cybersecurity asset inventories and documentation
Assist with audit preparation and evidence collection

Security architecture & engineering:

Support review of technical designs and security requirements
Assist with security configuration reviews across cloud and endpoint platforms
Contribute to cyber security improvement initiatives and remediation activities
Support documentation of security controls and architecture decisions

Required skills:

Strong interest in cyber security and technology
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Strong organisational and problem-solving capabilities
Basic understanding of core IT concepts including networking, Windows environments, cloud services, and identity/access management
Ability to manage sensitive and confidential information appropriately
Willingness to learn and develop technical expertise
Curiosity and strong willingness to learn
Professionalism and integrity
High attention to detail
Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
Accountability and ownership mindset
Positive, proactive approach to continuous improvement
Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity (academic or personal projects)

The following experience would be beneficial:

Awareness of cybersecurity concepts such as phishing, malware, MFA, or vulnerability management
Familiarity with Microsoft 365 or Azure environments
Understanding of cybersecurity frameworks (e.g. NIST, ISO 27001)
Entry-level certifications such as CompTIA ITF+, CompTIA Security+, or Microsoft Fundamentals

Entry requirements:

An A-Level in ICT
OR an International Baccalaureate at Level 3 in ICT
OR a Level 3 apprenticeship in a similar subject
OR a BTEC Extended Diploma in IT (180 credits)

You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.

If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.

Working hours: 9am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, with an hour for lunch. 2 days in office, 3 days at home.
