About Epta
The Assistant Accountant will support the Finance team with factory cost control, month-end reporting and finance business partnering for Food & Beverage. The role helps ensure manufacturing costs, inventory values, accruals, prepayments and reports are accurate, complete and delivered on time, while supporting month-end close and providing insight to operational and commercial stakeholders.
This permanent role is located at our Bradford Office and offers hybrid working (3 days office/2 home) offering 37.5 hours between 07:30 and 17:30.
Your Contribution
Factory Cost Control
- Analyse standard costs and variances across materials, labour and overheads.
- Support manufacturing month-end close, including cost postings, variances and factory performance.
- Work with production and operations to review cost drivers, variances and improvement actions.
- Maintain and validate SAP costing data.
- Support inventory valuation, stock adjustments and cost accuracy.
- Assist with factory reporting, including production value, transformation costs, material consumption and efficiency.
Month-End Closing, Accruals and Prepayments
- Support month-end close with the Finance team and Chief Accountant, ensuring deadlines and records are maintained.
- Prepare and review month-end journals, accruals, prepayments and cost allocations.
- Review unposted invoices, GRNI, open POs and related accrual/prepayment items.
- Support balance sheet reconciliations for accruals, prepayments, inventory and assigned accounts.
- Investigate month-end variances and support corrective actions.
- Maintain audit trails and support for journals and month-end adjustments.
- Provide Finance team cover during peak reporting and close deadlines.
Finance Business Partnering – Food & Beverage
- Support Food & Beverage budgeting and forecasting.
- Analyse variances and performance against budget, forecast and prior year.
- Provide commentary and insight for reviews and decision-making.
Reporting, Data Quality & Audit Support
- Produce accurate, timely financial reports for management and Group reporting.
- Ensure financial data integrity across SAP, reporting tools and schedules.
- Improve reporting processes, templates and tools for efficiency and accuracy.
- Prepare monthly packs, cost centre analysis and ad hoc reports.
- Identify data quality issues and support root-cause resolution.
- Support audit requests with schedules, explanations and evidence.
Your Journey (qualifications & skills)
You have a strong attention to details, proactive approach with a willingness to learn and develop, adaptability, good analytical skills, and good team working approach. Additionally, you should bring:
- Experience working within in a finance team and month end closing, preferably within manufacturing on a cost-focused finance role but not essential.
- Working knowledge of SAP (Production and Material Management module preferred)
- Professional certification (ACCA/CIMA) not required, however study support may be provided for candidates wishing to pursue qualification
