Shirehampton Park Golf Club, a welcoming members’ club located in Shirehampton, Bristol, is seeking a highly motivated Deputy Course Manager. This role is integral to the Course Maintenance and Presentation operations, ensuring the course is maintained to the highest standards.
About the Role
The Deputy Course Manager will support the Course Manager in maintaining and presenting the course to an exceptional standard. The role involves implementing robust turf and course management programmes, leading the greenkeeping team effectively, and ensuring the upkeep of machinery and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Course Maintenance and Presentation
- Lead the team in the absence of the Course Manager.
- Present the course to an excellent standard year-round.
- Apply materials such as fertilisers, weed control, and pest prevention treatments accurately and at optimal times.
- Stay informed on advancements in materials, machinery, and greenkeeping practices through resources such as BIGGA and the R&A.
Team Leadership and Management
- Manage and motivate the greenkeeping team, including delegating tasks, planning short- and long-term objectives, and monitoring performance.
- Demonstrate a proactive and self-motivated approach.
- Collaborate with the Course Manager to enhance course aesthetics and ensure the course is appropriately set up each week.
- Participate in weekly operational meetings with senior management.
Project Leadership
- Lead specific projects as assigned and contribute to the club’s overall management team.
Machinery and Equipment
- Operate and maintain machinery and equipment as instructed by the line manager.
- Report deficiencies in machinery or equipment promptly.
- Follow health and safety regulations, including risk assessments for all machinery.
Training and Development
- Attend training courses to enhance skills and maintain certifications, as provided by the club.

The Deputy Course Manager should demonstrate:

Professional Conduct
The role requires professionalism and courtesy when interacting with colleagues, club members, and visitors. Attendance at committee or sub-group meetings may be required in the Course Manager’s absence.

- The Greenkeepers Code of Practice and Code of Ethics.
- Health and Safety at Work Act 1974.
- The Club’s Health and Safety Policy.
Qualifications and Experience
- NVQ Level 2 in Sports Turf Management or higher.
- PA1, PA2, and PA3 Spraying certifications.
- Experience in course renovation projects, including bunkers, drainage, and irrigation.
