Summary
We are seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator to join our team in the countryside. You will play a key role in operating and optimising the Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP), ensuring all processes operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with environmental and regulatory standards. The role combines process operation, monitoring, analysis, troubleshooting, and hands-on support of plant reliability.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and optimise the day-to-day running of the Effluent Treatment Plant.
- Conduct routine wastewater sampling, water quality testing, and analysis.
- Maintain effluent quality in line with environmental and legal standards.
- Manage and optimise chemical dosing levels to ensure compliant treatment performance.
- Analyse process performance data and act to maintain plant stability.
- Investigate process issues and contribute to root cause problem solving.
- Identify and support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance plant efficiency, reliability, and compliance.
- Maintain accurate operational records and compliance documentation.
- Conduct routine inspections, report faults, risks, and abnormal conditions, and escalate issues that may impact plant performance, compliance, or site operations.
Maintenance & Asset Care
- Carry out basic planned maintenance tasks such as changing filter pads and cleaning equipment.
- Maintain plant equipment in line with site Health & Safety and operational procedures.
- Monitor and maintain stock levels of chemicals and consumables, ensuring timely replenishment.
Site Compliance & Safety
- Maintain accurate records for key site checks, including:
- Fire alarm testing.
- Emergency lighting testing.
- PAT testing. (Full training will be provided)
- Work safely in accordance with site policies, Chemical Handling protocols, and Working at Height requirements.
- Ensure all processes and actions are compliant with environmental, safety, and legal regulations.
Teamwork & Collaboration
- Collaborate closely with production, operations, engineering, maintenance teams, and external contractors to support effective plant performance.
- Communicate clearly regarding plant status, process changes, or equipment issues.
- Contribute to shared team activities such as general housekeeping, maintaining equipment areas, and relevant data entry.
- Work effectively both independently and as part of the wider team.
Training & Development
- Participate fully in all required training including:
- Fork Lift Truck operation.
- Chemical Handling.
- Health & Safety.
- Confined Space training.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to learning new skills and developing within the role.
- Share knowledge with colleagues to support a strong team environment.
Skills & Experience (desirable)
- Experience in wastewater, effluent treatment, utilities, process operations, manufacturing, or a similar environment.
- Good problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Additional Duties
- Perform any other reasonable tasks requested by Team leader or managers to support the smooth running of the operation.

Alternative Backgrounds Considered:
We are also open to candidates who may not yet have asset care experience but bring:
- Laboratory experience (sampling, testing, analysis) and/or
- Basic mechanical or maintenance knowledge.
Full training will be provided to develop these skills and build capability in plant asset care and maintenance.
This role will require you to be on a call-out rota and monitor systems from home twice a week for 1 hour.
