Overview

Broughton Manor Prep School -

supporting the chef manager - prepping salad bar, making snacks, helping with deliveries, serving the children and keeping the kitchen clean and tidy to a 5 star standard
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Commis to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for food preparation and a solid understanding of kitchen operations. This role offers an excellent opportunity to develop culinary skills within a professional hospitality environment, contributing to the delivery of exceptional dining experiences. The position is paid and suitable for individuals eager to advance their career in the food industry.

Duties

Assist in food preparation and cooking under the supervision of senior chefs
Maintain high standards of food safety and hygiene in all kitchen activities
Support the team in food presentation and garnishing to ensure visual appeal
Organise ingredients and supplies efficiently to facilitate smooth kitchen operations
Participate in cleaning schedules, ensuring all work areas are hygienic and well-maintained
Collaborate with team members to meet service deadlines during busy periods
Contribute ideas for menu development and improve kitchen workflows where appropriate
Supervise junior staff or trainees as part of team management responsibilities when required

Requirements

Proven experience in food production, kitchen work, or hospitality environments
Knowledge of food safety standards and procedures
Strong organisational skills with the ability to multitask effectively
Experience in supervising or leading a team is desirable but not essential
Good understanding of culinary techniques, including food preparation and cooking methods
Previous restaurant or hospitality experience is advantageous
Ability to work efficiently within a fast-paced environment, maintaining attention to detail
A proactive attitude with excellent communication skills and teamwork spirit
