Extrusion Machine Setter / Operator
Shift - 3 on 3 off rotations days - 0700 - 1900 nights 1900 - 0700
Pay - £14.45 + £20 per shift shift allowance
Are you an experienced machine setter/operator looking to join a fast-paced manufacturing environment where quality, teamwork, and continuous improvement are valued? We are looking for a proactive and reliable Extrusion Machine Setter / Operator to join our production team and play a key role in delivering high-quality uPVC products safely and efficiently.
The Role
Reporting to the Shift Leader, you will be responsible for setting, operating, monitoring, and maintaining uPVC extrusion machinery to ensure production targets, quality standards, and safety requirements are consistently achieved.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical ability, attention to detail, and a commitment to continuous improvement. You will also support team development by coaching colleagues and promoting best practices across the production environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesMachine Setting & Production
- Set up, change over, and optimise extrusion machinery using approved settings and technical documentation
- Select the correct tooling, materials, and equipment for production runs
- Operate machinery safely and efficiently to achieve production targets
- Monitor machine performance, product quality, and output rates
- Make real-time adjustments to maintain product specification and minimise waste
- Reduce downtime through effective troubleshooting and process control
Quality & Compliance
- Carry out regular dimensional and visual quality checks
- Complete quality documentation accurately and on time
- Identify and resolve quality issues where possible
- Escalate concerns promptly to Shift Leaders or Quality Control teams
- Ensure finished products meet customer and specification requirements
Maintenance & Continuous Improvement
- Diagnose and resolve machine and tooling issues
- Carry out routine running repairs and preventative maintenance
- Support maintenance engineers during breakdowns and improvement projects
- Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste, and enhance performance
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and best-practice procedures
Team Support & Training
- Provide training and guidance to packers, trainees, and colleagues
- Support new starters with machine operation and safe working practices
- Promote a positive team culture focused on accountability, safety, and quality
- Provide feedback on training needs and employee development
Health & Safety
- Follow all Health & Safety policies, procedures, and risk assessments
- Maintain excellent housekeeping standards across work areas
- Ensure PPE is worn correctly and machinery is operated safely
- Report hazards, near misses, and unsafe conditions promptly
About You
We are looking for someone who has:
- Previous experience as a Machine Setter/Operator within a manufacturing environment
- Experience in uPVC extrusion manufacturing (preferred)
- Strong understanding of machine setting, tooling, and process control
- Excellent problem-solving and fault-finding skills
- A strong focus on quality, accuracy, and attention to detail
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Basic IT, literacy, and numeracy skills
- A proactive, reliable, and flexible approach to work
Desirable Qualifications
- Forklift Truck Licence - however full onsite training provided
- Manufacturing or engineering qualification (advantageous but not essential)
