Brian Gow Roofing Supplies is a successful independent roofing supplies merchant with branches across Sussex. We are looking for a full time Yard Operative and Driver for our branch at Burgess Hill, West Sussex.
Main Duties and responsibilities
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Yard Operative and Driver to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in maintaining the yard’s operations, under the supervision of the Branch Manager ensuring that materials and equipment are organised and readily available. This position requires a proactive individual who can work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while adhering to safety protocols.
The role will include, but not limited to:
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the yard ensuring all materials are stored safely.
- Assist with loading and unloading of materials from all vehicles.
- Support delivery drivers by preparing materials for dispatch and assisting with route planning if requested.
- Operate machinery as required for yard operations, including forklifts and other relevant equipment (training will be provided after successful completion of probation period).
- Conduct regular inspections of work equipment to ensure functionality and safety.
- Collaborate with customers and team members to ensure smooth operations and timely completion of tasks, including the locating and loading of goods.
- Maintaining vehicle cleanliness to ensure the legal and safety requirements are met.
- You will be responsible for the safe delivery of products to our customers.
- Complete all necessary admin paperwork.
- Ensure H&S and company procedure are met at all times.
Our ideal candidate would meet the following criteria:
- Previous experience in a similar role is advantageous but not essential; training will be given.
- Roofing product knowledge desirable but not essential.
- Familiarity with commercial driving, flatbed operations, or delivery driving is highly desirable.
- Yard experience desirable but not essential.
- Excellent customer service skills, with the ability to communicate at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail are essential for maintaining an efficient working environment.
- Self-motivated, organised and punctual.
- A team player that can work both independently and as part of a team.
- A forklift licence is a bonus but not essential (training will be provided after a probationary period).
Qualifications
To meet the requirements of our Insurance, you must have a full (clean) driving licence and have at least two years + driving experience.

Hours: 07.30 – 17.00 Monday to Friday.
Please note, this is a manual job, and you will be required to work in all weather conditions. The role is based at our Burgess Hill branch and you will therefore need your own transport to reach the depot. You may be required to work from our other locations with prior notice.
Full training in all aspects of the role will be provide.
