Job summary

Ruskington Medical Practice has an exciting opportunity for a qualified, motivated Dispenser to join our team. We are recruiting to replace a long standing member of our dispensary team, moving on to seek new challenges. The successful candidate should hold a NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing and portray excellent customer service.

Candidates should kindly make themselves available for interview on Monday 3rd and Tuesday 4th August 2026.

The contracted hours for the successful candidate will be 31 hours per week, currently as follows:

Monday 0930:1830 (9 hours)

Tuesday 0800:1700 (9 hours)

Wednesday 1300:1700 (4 hours)

Thursday 0800:1700 (9 hours)

Extra hours may be required to cover holiday and sickness.

Hours can be discussed and are flexible.

Main duties of the job

Alongside the NVQ Level 2, we are looking for an enthusiastic, hardworking individual who portrays a professional, friendly manner to all our patients and to fellow colleagues. They must also demonstrate excellent communications skills, be able to prioritise workload and display the ability to work well in a team.

As a qualified Dispenser, the successful candidate will be responsible for dispensing medication in a safe and accurate manner while following the Practice's policies.

Overview of your organisation

Ruskington Medical Practice is a friendly and caring Practice, which provides a range of services for the 8,000 patients that are registered with us. Of this number, we dispense to approximately 2500 patients. We strive to ensure every patient receives excellent medical service from all members of staff within the Practice. We treat all patients and staff with dignity, independence, respect and honesty in an environment that is accessible, safe and friendly.

The following are the core responsibilities of a Dispenser:

To be responsible for the safe and accurate dispensing of all medication, ensuring there are no discrepancies.

Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol.

Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary, liaising with the Dispensary/ Business Dispensary Manager to facilitate reordering.

Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable.

Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with Practice policy.

Safe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines.

Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within a 48-hour timeframe.

Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters.

Process prescription requests.

Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.

Maintain accurate records at all times.

There may be, on occasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks; as directed by the Dispensary Manager or Practice Manager.

Skills

Essential criteria

Excellent Communication skills. Strong IT skills. Effective time management and able to plan and organise own workload. Ability to work as a team member and autonomously. Problem solving & analytical skills. Ability to follow policy and procedure. Ability to promote best practice regarding all pharmaceutical matters.

Desirable criteria

Capable of managing payments. Ability to effectively manage stock, including ordering, rotation and disposal.

Experience

Essential criteria

Experience of working in a dispensary or community pharmacy. Experience working with the general public / patients.

Desirable criteria

Experience of working in primary care. Broad knowledge of General Practice. Working knowledge of SystmOne or similar clinical systems, including use of online Triage systems.

Qualifications

Essential criteria

GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths at Grade C or above

NVQ Level 2 in Dispensing

Pay: From £13.00 per hour
