Job purpose

The Area Engineering Manager (Field Based) is responsible for leading and managing a team of field engineers within a defined geographic area, ensuring high-quality service delivery, technical performance, and operational efficiency.
The role acts as the primary operational leader in the field, driving performance across the four core pillars while maintaining strong technical oversight and team engagement.

Salary: £45,000.00

Hours: 40 hours per week. Monday- Friday 8:30am-17:00pm

Location: Field based (North)

What You'll Be Doing:

1. Team Leadership & Management

Manage, support, and develop a team of field engineers
Conduct regular performance reviews and 1-2-1s
Recruit, onboard, and train new engineers
Provide coaching, mentoring, and technical support
Manage on-call rotas and engineer availability

2. Operational Delivery

Oversee day-to-day engineering activities
Ensure jobs are completed within SLA
Manage escalations and urgent reactive works
Attend site where required for technical or client issues
Ensure engineers update systems in real time (CASH)

3. Performance Management – Core Pillars
Responsible for area performance across:

Revenue: Delivery of engineer productivity and job completion
First Time Fix: Reduction of repeat visits through technical quality
Utilisation: Effective scheduling and engineer output
Open Calls: Reduction of backlog and overdue jobs
Identify underperformance and take corrective action

4. Quality, Compliance & Safety

Ensure compliance with company and industry standards
Conduct audits, toolbox talks, and safety checks
Complete accident investigations and reporting
Ensure RAMS and procedures are followed

5. Customer & Stakeholder Support

Support Regional Contracts Manager with client interactions
Attend client meetings when required
Resolve operational issues before escalation

What You'll Bring:

Strong background in Fire & Security engineering
Proven experience leading or mentoring engineers

Experience working in a fast-paced service environment
