Osprey Foods is a multi temperature bonded customs warehouse, located in Holt, Norfolk, supplying the cruise line industry as well as a strong overseas export client base within the retail and foodservice sectors. A fast-paced growing business, our strategy is to grow within our existing client base and also bring new clients onboard from across the travel sector.
We are a small, friendly team who enjoy the challenge of growing this business.
This is a key role for someone who enjoys working close to the business, balancing day-to-day financial control with commercial insight and flexibility. You’ll be involved, practical, and comfortable rolling up your sleeves in a fast-moving, operational environment.
The workload involved in this role is expected to require the equivalent of 2 days a week and we are open to discussing how and when you choose to work.
The Role
As Financial Controller, you will take ownership of the company’s financial operations, reporting, and controls, while supporting the leadership team with clear financial insight to help drive decisions and performance. A Finance Exec supports the Finance Controller.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow)
- Manage the month-end close, general ledger, and reconciliations
- Develop budgets and rolling forecasts
- Monitor and analyse food, logistics, labour, and overhead costs
- Provide margin, variance, and pricing analysis
- Manage cash flow forecasting and working capital
- Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and inventory valuation
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements
- Manage tax filings and liaise with external accountants and advisors
- Maintain and improve accounting systems and finance processes
- Provide ad-hoc analysis and support to the management team
About You
- Proven experience in a Financial Controller or senior finance role
- Experience in food service, logistics, FMCG, or inventory-based businesses preferred
- Strong understanding of cost accounting and margin analysis
- Excellent Excel and financial systems skills
- Strong commercial and analytical skills
- Comfortable working in a small business with limited layers and resources
- Hands-on, adaptable, and solutions-focused
- Confident communicator able to work with both finance and operations teams

Key Responsibilities
1. Financial Management & Reporting
- Prepare and maintain accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage general ledger, chart of accounts, and month-end close process
- Produce management reports including P&L, balance sheet, cash flow, and KPIs
- Provide variance analysis and actionable insights to support decision-making
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to directors and external stakeholders
2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Cost Control
- Develop and manage annual budgets and rolling forecasts
- Monitor food costs, logistics costs, labour, and overheads
- Analyse margins by product, customer, route, or channel
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements
- Support pricing decisions with margin and break-even analysis
3. Cash Flow & Working Capital
- Manage cash flow forecasting and liquidity planning
- Oversee accounts receivable and payable processes
- Optimize inventory valuation and stock control in collaboration with operations
- Manage supplier payment terms and customer credit policies
4. Compliance & Controls
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and statutory requirements
- Prepare VAT, payroll tax, and other statutory filings (or manage external providers)
- Maintain internal financial controls appropriate for a small business environment
- Coordinate audits (future requirement) and liaise with external accountants, tax advisors, and banks
5. Systems & Process Improvement
- Streamline financial processes to support business growth
- Improve data accuracy between finance, operations, and logistics systems
- Support implementation of new tools, reports, or automation where appropriate
6. Business Partnering & Management Support
- Act as a trusted financial advisor to the management team
- Support operational teams with financial insight and analysis
- Contribute to strategic planning, expansion decisions, and capital investments
- Assist with ad-hoc analysis, business cases, and special projects
7. Team & Cross-Functional Support (Flexibility Required)
- Hands-on involvement in day-to-day finance tasks when required
- Support payroll, invoicing, and reconciliations as needed
- Step outside strict role boundaries to assist the broader management team
- Adapt to changing priorities typical of a growing, lean organization
Pay: From £300.00 per day
