We work closely with schools to deliver curriculum PE, extracurricular clubs, intervention programmes, competitions, and teacher support, ensuring every child has access to engaging and inclusive sporting opportunities.
Role Overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic, motivated and professional Primary PE Specialist / Sports Coach to join our growing team in Calderdale.
The successful candidate will deliver outstanding PE lessons and sports coaching sessions across a range of primary schools, helping pupils develop physical literacy, teamwork, confidence and a love of sport. You will play a key role in supporting schools, inspiring young people, and maintaining the high standards associated with the Edstart brand.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, deliver and assess high-quality PE lessons across EYFS, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
- Deliver a broad range of curriculum PE activities including invasion games, gymnastics, athletics, dance, striking and fielding games, net and wall games, and physical literacy.
- Organise and lead breakfast clubs, lunchtime activities, after-school clubs and holiday provision.
- Adapt lessons to meet the needs of pupils of varying abilities, ensuring inclusion for all learners.
- Monitor and record pupil progress in line with school and Edstart expectations.
- Build positive relationships with pupils, school staff, parents and carers.
- Support schools in raising participation, engagement and achievement in PE and school sport.
- Promote healthy lifestyles, teamwork, resilience and positive behaviour through sport.
- Assist with school sports events, competitions and enrichment activities.
- Maintain accurate registers, lesson plans and assessment records.
- Ensure all sessions are delivered safely and in accordance with safeguarding, health and safety and Edstart policies.
- Care for and maintain sports equipment, reporting any issues promptly.
- Travel between school sites throughout Calderdale as required.
- Represent Edstart Calderdale professionally at all times.
Essential Requirements
- Experience delivering PE and/or sports coaching within a primary school environment.
- Relevant sports coaching qualification, sports degree or equivalent.
- Strong knowledge of the Primary PE National Curriculum.
- Excellent communication and behaviour management skills.
- Passion for inspiring children through sport and physical activity.
- Ability to plan engaging and progressive lessons.
- Commitment to safeguarding and child welfare.
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
- Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Desirable Qualifications
- Level 2 National Governing Body (NGB) Coaching Qualification.
- Degree in Sports Coaching, Physical Education, Sport Science or related field.
- Paediatric or Emergency First Aid qualification.
- Safeguarding certification.
- Experience delivering intervention programmes and extracurricular clubs.

Working Hours
This is a full-time position based around school hours, with additional responsibility for breakfast clubs, after-school clubs and holiday provision where required.
