Join our dynamic multidisciplinary water & wastewater team and lead innovative projects across the UK and worldwide. We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer who thrives in collaborative environments, enjoys solving complex technical challenges, and is passionate about delivering high-quality, sustainable engineering solutions for water and wastewater infrastructure.
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will:
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams across the UK and internationally to deliver successful water and wastewater projects.
- Lead and contribute to projects, ensuring delivery on time, on budget, and in line with OCU business governance.
- Provide expert guidance on engineering design deliverables, including calculations, drawings, and technical reports, following relevant codes and Purestream design standards.
- Ensure quality and safe design of technical solutions in accordance with UK and international standards.
- Communicate technical solutions clearly to clients, contractors, and colleagues through presentations, workshops, and safety reviews (including HAZOPs and ALMs).
- Engage with clients and construction teams on Design & Build projects to provide practical, innovative mechanical solutions.
- Assess existing water and wastewater infrastructure to develop mechanical designs for new and upgrade projects.
- Support compliance with CDM regulations, producing design and environmental risk assessments where required.
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent; Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (IMechE or equivalent) or near completion.
- Hands-on experience in water and/or wastewater engineering design, including design & build projects in the UK.
- Strong technical knowledge of water sector infrastructure, WIMES, UK codes, and asset standards.
- Experience collaborating with contractors to implement engineering solutions effectively.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills; able to work independently and within multidisciplinary teams.
- Highly motivated, organised, and committed to delivering technical excellence.
- Flexible and willing to travel to project sites or client offices when required.
- Specialist knowledge in water or wastewater process mechanical systems.
- Experience in leading HAZOPs, ALMs, or similar safety and technical review workshops.
- Exposure to international projects and multidisciplinary collaborations.
- Experience in mentoring junior engineers or leading small technical teams.
