JOB TITLE: Link Van Driver

We are seeking a dependable and professional Overnight Link Van Driver to join our transport team based in Peterborough. This is a key role within the business, ensuring stock, customer orders and internal documentation are moved safely and efficiently between branches during overnight operations.
Role Purpose
The Overnight Link Van Driver is responsible for transporting stock, parcels and document bags between LEW branches across the network. The role involves lone working throughout the night, ensuring deliveries and collections are completed accurately, securely and on schedule.
The successful candidate will regularly access branch premises outside normal operating hours, including opening and securing buildings, managing alarm systems and ensuring stock is delivered to the correct locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out overnight delivery and collection routes between LEW branches.
- Load, transport and unload stock, parcels and document bags safely and efficiently, ensuring that no damage occurs during transportation.
- Ensure all goods are delivered to the correct branch location and collected as scheduled.
- Verify delivery documentation and ensure accurate transfer of stock between branches.
- Open & close branch premises when required, including setting and un-setting alarm systems, locking and securing premises on exit.
- Maintain security of branch premises, vehicles, stock and company property always.
- Conduct daily vehicle checks and report any defects or maintenance requirements.
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures and lone-working policies.
- Carry out stock handling duties in accordance with company procedures and health & safety requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all road traffic legislation and company driving policies.
- Communicate effectively with branch teams and management regarding any issues or delays.
- Maintain accurate records of deliveries, collections and route activity.
- Support continuous improvement of transport and logistics operations.
- Support warehouse operations as required to ensure the smooth running of the distribution network.
- Assist with general housekeeping duties within the warehouse, maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
- Support colleagues with other reasonable warehouse and logistics tasks as required by the business
- Prepare stock and parcels for overnight branch transfers.
Key Skills & Experience
- Manual Driving Licence with no significant endorsements (essential).
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Truck Licence (essential).
- Previous experience in a delivery, courier, logistics, warehouse or transport role preferred.
- Experience of driving long-distance routes and working independently.
- Good geographical knowledge and ability to follow planned routes.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy when handling deliveries and stock transfers.
- Ability to work effectively without direct supervision.
- Basic understanding of security procedures and alarm systems is advantageous.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Physically capable of loading, unloading and moving stock and parcels safely.
- Basic IT and handheld device skills desirable.
- Awareness of warehouse health and safety procedures.
