St Peter’s Preparatory School, Lympstone is seeking a capable and committed Head of Maintenance to lead the delivery of maintenance services across the school site.
This is a rewarding opportunity to play a key role in ensuring the school’s buildings, facilities, and infrastructure are safe, compliant, and maintained to an excellent standard, supporting both staff and pupils in a well-functioning environment.
The Role
You will be responsible for the effective management and delivery of all maintenance operations across the school, including day-to-day repairs, planned preventative maintenance, and longer-term development projects. Working closely with the Director of Operations, you will coordinate Operations staff and external contractors where required, manage budgets and systems, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
- Hours: 37.5 hours per week
- Monday to Friday, 08:00-16:30 with a 60-minute unpaid break each day
- Six weeks’ paid holiday plus Christmas closure
- Contract: Permanent
- Salary: £30,527 per annum (including paid holiday entitlement)
- Start date: Tuesday 1 September 2026 or sooner if possible
About You
You will be a practical, organised, and solution-focused professional with:
- Proven experience across a range of maintenance disciplines (e.g. carpentry, plumbing, painting and general repairs)
- Experience of managing maintenance operations, including planning and prioritising workloads
- Strong budget management and record-keeping skills
- A thorough understanding of health and safety, compliance, and statutory regulations (including Fire Safety and COSHH)
- The ability to lead, motivate, and collaborate with colleagues and contractors
- A full, clean UK driving licence
- The ability to undertake physical work and work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, with a calm and methodical approach
- Strong communication skills
- Competence in using IT systems
You will also demonstrate resilience, flexibility, and a commitment to maintaining high standards in a busy school environment, along with a strong commitment to safeguarding and pupil wellbeing.
