Company Overview
This is a permanent role with Expert Insights (expertinsights.com), an established B2B cybersecurity research platform read by over a million businesses a year. You'd work on a new title/newsletter we're launching, CISO Voice - so you won't find it online yet. That's the opportunity: a stable, growing company, and the chance to help build a publication from its very first issue
This is a training role. You don't need to be a cybersecurity expert or have years of newsroom experience - you need to be a strong, fast writer with sharp instincts and a real hunger to learn. We'll teach you the rest.
Interview process
- Telephone interview (45 mins)
- In-person interview with a short writing presentation (1 hr)
- Paid trial (8 hours)
About CISO Voice
CISO Voice is a new daily news publication for senior security leaders - CISOs, VPs and Directors of Security, and Heads of Security. It is the first purpose-built title in the Voice Media network, published by Expert Insights, a leading B2B cybersecurity research platform that helps over a million businesses a year make smarter decisions about cybersecurity.
Where the wider industry press writes for practitioners, CISO Voice is written for the person accountable to the board. We translate the day's cybersecurity news into what it means for risk, budget, regulation and strategy, a smart, sharp briefing a security leader can read in under a minute. The model is the Financial Times: measured, authoritative, engaging.
The role
This is a rare entry-level opportunity to learn journalism inside a publication from its very first issues. Working closely with the Editor, you'll write the daily news story that anchors CISO Voice's email and website.
The Editor chooses each day's story and angle and edits your copy closely, so you'll learn news judgement, sourcing and the CISO Voice style on the job, with support, from day one. Over time, as you build knowledge and contacts, you'll take on more ownership: pitching your own stories, developing sources, and conducting interviews. It's a role designed to grow as fast as you do.
What you'll do
- Write a clear, accurate daily news story to deadline, working with the Editor on the story and angle each morning
- Learn to spot what matters to senior security leaders, and translate the day's news into what it means for the boardroom
- Monitor industry feeds, press releases and research reports for story ideas
- Grow into developing your own sources among CISOs, researchers, vendors and PR contacts
- Grow into interviews with industry experts for quotes, features and Q&As
- Work to our editorial standards for accuracy, tone and the CISO Voice register, with close editing and feedback as you learn
What we're looking for
- Excellent writing. Clear, sharp, engaging prose, this is the one thing we can't teach. Show us you can write.
- Hunger to learn. Curious, inquisitive, and genuinely interested in technology, business or current affairs.
- Sharp instincts. A feel for what makes a story interesting and important, even if you've never worked in news.
- Reliability. Able to hit a daily deadline and take feedback well.
- A self-starter. Organised, proactive, and comfortable asking questions.
- No cybersecurity knowledge required, an interest in the field is a bonus, but a willingness to learn it quickly is what matters.
Education and experience
- A degree (any discipline) or equivalent - Journalism, Communications, English or a related field is welcome but not required
- Any writing experience helps: student journalism, a blog, a newsletter, work placements, or simply samples you're proud of
- This is an entry-level role; we expect to train the right person from the ground up

- Salary: From £26,437 per year (national minimum wage, 40 hours/week), with clear progression as you develop.
- Reporting to: Editor, CISO Voice.
