Skilled Site Operative
Location: Llanelli Yard, Carmarthenshire
Hours: 07:30am – 4:00pm, Monday to Friday

Working Area: South Wales, with occasional working away from home and enhanced payments available
About the Role
T&M Group Ltd is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Site Operative to join our growing operational team. We are ideally looking for candidates with a background in groundworks, civil engineering, utilities, reinstatement, drainage, highways, fencing or similar construction disciplines. However, applications are welcomed from experienced builders, landscapers, multi-skilled operatives and construction professionals who can demonstrate strong practical ability and a proactive attitude.
This is a hands-on role working across a diverse range of projects throughout South Wales, including infrastructure works, groundworks, drainage, fencing, reinstatement, landscaping and specialist construction activities.
The successful candidate will be trusted to take ownership of day-to-day site operations, lead small teams of 1–2 operatives when required, and ensure that all works are completed safely, professionally, on programme and to the highest standards of quality.
Key Responsibilities
Site Operations
- Carry out a variety of construction, civil engineering and groundwork activities.
- Undertake excavation works, drainage installation, concrete works, reinstatement, fencing and general civil engineering tasks.
- Operate plant and machinery where suitably trained and authorised.
- Read and work from site drawings, specifications and work instructions.
- Ensure efficient use of labour, materials, plant and equipment.
- Maintain a clean, organised and professional working environment.
Team Leadership
- Lead and supervise small gangs of up to 1–2 operatives.
- Plan daily activities and allocate work effectively.
- Lead by example through a positive work ethic and professional standards.
- Ensure team members understand daily tasks and safety requirements.
- Monitor productivity and quality of work throughout the day.
- Support less experienced operatives through coaching and mentoring.
Health, Safety & Compliance
- Promote and maintain a positive safety culture at all times.
- Ensure all works are undertaken in accordance with RAMS, permits and company procedures.
- Stop unsafe acts and challenge poor practices where necessary.
- Conduct dynamic risk assessments during changing site conditions.
- Ensure PPE is worn and maintained correctly.
- Report accidents, incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions promptly.
- Assist with site inspections, audits and toolbox talks.
- Protect the public, clients, neighbouring properties and underground services at all times.
Quality & Performance
- Deliver works "Right First Time" and minimise defects and rework.
- Ensure all works meet client specifications and industry standards.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and attention to detail.
- Complete work within agreed programmes and deadlines.
- Take pride in presenting a professional image of the business.
Essential Requirements
- Previous experience within construction, groundworks, civils, utilities, highways, reinstatement, landscaping or general building works.
- Ability to supervise and motivate a small team.
- Strong understanding of safe systems of work.
- Full UK Driving Licence.
- Good communication skills.
- Positive attitude and strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of tasks.
- Flexible approach to working locations and project requirements.
Desirable Qualifications & Experience
- CPCS or NPORS Plant Tickets.
- CSCS Card.
- Street Works (NRSWA).
- SHEA Water, Gas, Electric or Telecoms.
- Cat & Genny Training.
- First Aid at Work.
- Confined Space Training.
- Abrasive Wheels.
- Manual Handling.
- Experience working around live services and utility infrastructure.
- Experience supervising small construction gangs.

Pay: £15.00-£16.50 per hour
