About the Role
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Health & Safety and Training Officer to ensure a safe, compliant, and continuously improving workplace. This role is central to developing and maintaining a strong safety culture while also leading employee training and development across the organisation.
You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining health & safety systems in line with current legislation, HSE guidance, and industry best practice. In addition, you will oversee all internal training programmes, ensuring employees are competent, well-trained, and supported in their ongoing development.
This is a hands-on role requiring strong communication, organisational skills, and the ability to influence at all levels of the business.
Main duties:
- Conduct regular health and safety inspections and reviews of employee practices and procedures.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and ensure accurate documentation and record-keeping.
- Research, implement, and support the delivery of relevant health and safety policies.
- Manage and provide training on Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH).
- Lead first aid and fire warden initiatives, ensuring preparedness and compliance.
- Maintain records of emergency equipment and coordinate maintenance activities.
- Investigate accidents and incidents, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
- Chair Health & Safety Committee meetings and drive safety-related initiatives.
- Act as the internal auditor for health and safety, environmental standards, and other company accreditations.
- Oversee the employee induction program and facilitate site familiarization for new hires.
- Supervise trainees, manage their probation periods, and conduct training reviews.
- Organize and oversee forklift training and ongoing competency evaluations.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver training programs for company employees.
- Ensure employee training files are comprehensive, up-to-date, and accurately maintained.
- Design, expand, and enhance training and development programs in line with organizational needs.
- Identify training and development needs through job analysis and consultations with managers and HR.
- Manage the Company Training Matrix, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Develop training materials for in-house courses and manage the delivery of training sessions.
- Assist line managers in addressing specific training challenges, offering tailored solutions.
- Evaluate and support "on-the-job" trainers, ensuring the effectiveness of training delivery.
Skills & Experience
- Strong knowledge of UK Health & Safety legislation and best practice
- Experience conducting risk assessments, audits, and incident investigations
- Proven ability to deliver engaging training sessions across multiple levels
- Excellent organisational and record-keeping skills
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
- Ability to influence and promote a positive safety culture
Qualifications Required
- IOSH Level 3 and/or NEBOSH General Certificate
- First Aid at Work Certificate
- Fire Warden training
- Forklift Instructor/Trainer licence or approved training status (desirable)
Hours of work - 40 per week (Monday to Friday)
Pay: Up to £39,000.00 per year
