Senior Groundsman for The Hive London.
About the facility:
The Hive London is an internationally renowned stadium facility in North London. Home to National League football club Barnet FC and women’s team London Bees, The Hive London regularly hosts a wide range of visiting teams from across the world. International teams including England, Italy, Germany, Brazil, and many more have all trained at The Hive London and benefitted from its elite facilities.
In addition to the stadium pitch, The Hive London is home to the largest Football Centre of its kind in Europe, boasting nine large 5-a-side 5G football pitches and three full-size 3G, 4G, and 5G football pitches, with two further full-size 5G pitches currently under development. Additional facilities include a gym, medical scanning centre TIC Health, 13 event spaces, and an on-site Starbucks. The Hive London truly is a unique and industry-leading sporting venue.
Responsibilities:
Reporting directly to the Head Groundsman, the successful applicant will play a key role in the day-to-day management, preparation, and presentation of all playing surfaces and surrounding site areas.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
- Assisting with the planning and implementation of seasonal pitch maintenance programmes.
- Preparing and maintaining first-class playing surfaces for all matches, training sessions, and events.
- Supervising and supporting Junior Groundsmen and casual staff where required.
- Carrying out advanced grounds duties including mowing, pitch marking, aeration, fertilising, overseeding, irrigation management, and divoting.
- Ensuring all pitches and landscaped areas are maintained to the highest professional standards.
- Assisting with stadium and training ground matchday preparations and post-match recovery works.
- Operating, maintaining, and ensuring the safe use of all grounds machinery and equipment.
- Monitoring and reporting machinery defects, maintenance requirements, and stock levels.
- Ensuring irrigation systems are regularly tested and functioning effectively.
- Assisting in the implementation of health and safety procedures, risk assessments, and safe working practices.
- Supporting the Head Groundsman with scheduling, planning, and allocation of daily tasks
- Ensuring stadium matchdays run smoothly from a grounds perspective.

EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS:
Essential:
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in groundskeeping, sports turf, or landscaping.
- Experience operating grounds maintenance machinery safely.
- Good understanding of sports turf maintenance practices.
- Full UK driving licence.
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and matchdays as required.
Desirable:
- Experience within a professional football or elite sports environment.
KEY INFORMATION:
Job type:
Full-time, Permanent.
Schedule:
5 days (45 hours) per week on a rota basis, including weekends and matchdays.
All shifts include up to three breaks per day, totalling one hour.
Annual Leave:
30 days per annum (including bank holidays).
Commute:
Applicants must live within a 1-hour commutable distance from the HA8 postcode area.
