Job Title
Part-Time Private Hire Driver – Clarkson’s Farm & Cotswolds Tours
Job Summary
Chipping Norton Tours is looking for a friendly, reliable private hire driver to help with small-group tours around Clarkson’s Farm, Diddly Squat Farm Shop, The Farmer’s Dog, Hawkstone Brewery, and the surrounding Cotswolds.
This is a driving role, not a tour guide role. I will be hosting the tours myself, so you would not be expected to provide commentary or lead the day. Your job would be to drive safely, follow the planned route and timetable, and help provide a relaxed, professional experience for guests.
You would be driving a licensed Mercedes V-Class automatic private hire vehicle, carrying small groups of up to 7 passengers.
The work is mainly local tour driving around Chipping Norton, West Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, with occasional longer-distance private hire work depending on bookings.
A typical tour day is around 60 miles, with plenty of downtime between stops while guests visit different locations. The work is relaxed and enjoyable, but reliability, safe driving and good customer service are essential.
This is primarily a driving role. However, if the right person is interested and suited to it, there may be the opportunity to progress into occasional tour hosting or guiding in the future.
Responsibilities
Safely drive guests around West Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds and surrounding areas.
Drive a Mercedes V-Class automatic private hire vehicle provided for work duties.
Follow a planned route and timetable.
Work alongside me while I host the tour.
Be polite, friendly and professional with guests.
Assist with pickups, drop-offs and general customer care where needed.
Keep the vehicle clean, tidy and presentable during the working day.
Represent Chipping Norton Tours in a calm, reliable and professional way.
Requirements
Must hold, or be able to obtain, a West Oxfordshire District Council private hire driver licence.
Clean or near-clean driving licence preferred, as the person needs to be straightforward to insure on a licensed private hire vehicle.
Confident driving a larger automatic vehicle such as a Mercedes V-Class.
Safe, calm and considerate driver.
Reliable, punctual and well-presented.
Friendly, patient and comfortable dealing with visitors.
Local knowledge of Chipping Norton, West Oxfordshire or the Cotswolds would be useful.
Previous private hire, chauffeur, taxi, tourism, hospitality or customer-facing experience would be helpful, but attitude, reliability and safe driving are the most important things.
Pay and Hours
Pay: £15–£20 per hour, depending on experience, licensing status and suitability.
Expected hours: approximately 12–24 hours per week, depending on bookings.
A standard tour day is usually around 7–8 hours, but some private hire days may be longer by agreement. Longer days are paid accordingly.
This is flexible part-time tour driving work, mainly for pre-booked tour days. It may suit someone already self-employed, semi-retired, or looking for occasional private hire driving work.
Benefits
Flexible working days.
Company vehicle provided for work duties.
Relaxed and enjoyable Cotswolds-based tour work.
No heavy mileage, no constant airport runs, and no goods delivery work.
No tour guiding or commentary required.
Smart casual dress. No formal uniform, but you must be clean, tidy and well-presented as this is customer-facing work.
