Senior Clinical Coder – Home Based
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, motivated and experienced Clinical Coder to join our established Clinical Coding Department as a Senior Clinical Coder. This home-based role offers the opportunity to work as part of a supportive and knowledgeable team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality coded clinical data within a busy acute healthcare environment.
We are seeking an individual who is confident working in a fast-paced department and able to adapt to the demands of a constantly evolving NHS environment. The successful applicant will be a qualified and experienced Clinical Coder who holds the National Clinical Coding Qualification, giving them Accredited Clinical Coder status. Experienced Clinical Coders who are currently working towards Accredited Clinical Coder status may also be considered for appointment at Band 4, with progression to Band 5 following successful completion of the National Clinical Coding Qualification.
The post holder will demonstrate a high level of clinical coding knowledge and accuracy, with excellent attention to detail and a methodical approach to their work. You will be able to manage competing priorities, work effectively under pressure and contribute positively as part of a team working to tight deadlines. A sound understanding of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology is essential, alongside strong IT and communication skills. The role may involve liaison with clinicians to clarify clinical information and support accurate coding.
Previous NHS experience within an acute hospital setting would be desirable, although not essential. Experience of Patient Administration Systems would also be advantageous. Previous clerical experience, accurate keyboard skills and a good working knowledge of IT software packages are essential.
