Workshop Manager – Bench Joinery Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Workshop Manager to oversee the day-to-day operations of our bench joinery workshop. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing workshop production, leading a team of skilled joiners, maintaining quality standards, and ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and to specification.
Key ResponsibilitiesWorkshop & Production Management
- Oversee the daily operation of the workshop, ensuring efficient workflow and productivity.
- Plan, organise, and monitor production schedules to ensure deadlines are achieved.
- Allocate work effectively across the workshop team based on project requirements and resource availability.
- Monitor progress of ongoing projects and proactively address any issues that may impact delivery.
Team Leadership
- Manage, motivate, and support a team of bench joiners and workshop operatives.
- Provide guidance, training, and performance management to maintain high standards of workmanship.
- Promote a positive, safe, and productive working environment.
Quality Control
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures throughout the manufacturing process.
- Conduct regular inspections of work to ensure products meet company and client specifications.
- Identify and rectify quality issues before products leave the workshop.
Project Coordination
- Liaise closely with general managers regarding upcoming and ongoing projects.
- Attend planning meetings and provide updates on workshop capacity, progress, and delivery schedules.
- Ensure clear communication between the workshop and site teams to support successful project delivery.
Health & Safety
- Ensure compliance with all health and safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe workshop environment.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and toolbox talks as required.
Materials & Resources
- Monitor material requirements and coordinate with procurement to ensure timely availability of materials.
- Manage workshop equipment and machinery, ensuring maintenance schedules are adhered to.
- Control waste and promote efficient use of materials.
Requirements
- Proven experience in bench joinery manufacturing.
- Previous experience in a workshop management or supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of joinery production processes, materials, and quality standards.
- Excellent organisational and planning skills.
- Strong leadership and people management abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Good communication skills with the ability to liaise effectively with project and contract management teams.
- Sound understanding of health and safety requirements within a manufacturing environment.
Desirable
- Relevant joinery, carpentry, or construction qualifications.
- Experience working on high-end bespoke joinery projects.
- Knowledge of production planning and workshop management systems.
Reporting To
General & Assistant Manager
Pay: £20.00-£22.00 per hour
