Compliance, Sustainability & Regulatory Lead
Location: Location: Starting in Oldham, moving to our new facility in Bredbury later this year
Salary: £40,000 DOE

About the Role
Shape the Future of Compliance and Sustainability
We are looking for a motivated and proactive Compliance, Sustainability & Regulatory Lead to take ownership of our compliance, sustainability and management systems activities and help drive continuous improvement across the business.

The role offers exposure to a wide range of disciplines including management systems, sustainability, regulatory compliance, customer requirements, ethical sourcing and governance.
You will be responsible for maintaining and improving our Integrated Management System (IMS), supporting compliance with UK and EU regulations, managing sustainability initiatives, coordinating audits and helping ensure our products, processes and supply chain continue to meet customer, legal and industry requirements.
Working closely with senior leadership, customers, suppliers and certification bodies, you will play a key role in supporting the company's compliance and sustainability objectives while helping to shape future improvements across the business.
Key Responsibilities
Compliance & Governance
- Support the development and maintenance of the company's compliance framework.
- Monitor changes in relevant UK and EU legislation and industry standards.
- Maintain compliance records, registers and documentation.
- Support customer compliance requests, assessments and questionnaires.
- Assist in the development and implementation of company policies and procedures.
- Promote a culture of compliance and continual improvement throughout the organisation.
Integrated Management System (IMS)
- Maintain and continuously improve the company's Integrated Management System.
- Ensure policies, procedures and records remain current and effectively controlled.
- Support management review activities and reporting processes.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives across the business.
- Support document control and process management activities.
Quality Management (ISO 9001)
- Support the maintenance and continual improvement of the ISO 9001 Quality Management System.
- Coordinate and participate in internal audits.
- Assist with external certification audits.
- Support the investigation of non-conformances and customer complaints.
- Help implement corrective and preventative actions.
- Monitor quality objectives and performance indicators.
Environmental Management (ISO 14001)
- Support the maintenance and improvement of the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System.
- Monitor environmental objectives and compliance obligations.
- Assist with environmental audits and improvement projects.
- Support waste reduction and environmental performance initiatives.
- Maintain environmental records and reporting data.
Sustainability & ESG
- Support the implementation of the company's sustainability strategy.
- Assist with sustainability reporting and customer ESG requests.
- Collect and analyse sustainability-related data.
- Identify opportunities to improve environmental performance and resource efficiency.
- Support sustainability awareness and engagement across the business.
EcoVadis & Sustainability Assessments
- Support EcoVadis submissions and evidence gathering activities.
- Coordinate information from different departments.
- Assist in implementing improvement actions arising from EcoVadis assessments.
- Help monitor sustainability performance and progress against objectives.
Sedex & Ethical Compliance
- Support Sedex membership requirements and administration.
- Assist with SMETA audits and corrective action plans.
- Maintain ethical sourcing and responsible business records.
- Support supplier compliance monitoring activities.
- Promote responsible sourcing and ethical business practices.
Packaging Compliance
- Support packaging compliance obligations and reporting requirements.
- Maintain packaging data and compliance records.
- Assist with Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) reporting activities.
- Monitor developments in packaging legislation and requirements.
- Support sustainable packaging initiatives.
Product Compliance & Regulatory Support
- Support product compliance activities across UK and EU markets.
- Maintain compliance documentation, technical files and records.
- Assist with CE and UKCA marking requirements where applicable.
- Support conformity assessments, declarations and product compliance reviews.
- Liaise with suppliers and testing organisations to obtain compliance documentation.
- Monitor regulatory developments affecting products and materials.
Carbon & Environmental Reporting
- Support the collection and analysis of carbon and environmental data.
- Assist with carbon footprint reporting and reduction initiatives.
- Help monitor environmental performance metrics.
- Support customer requests relating to environmental performance and sustainability.
Responsible Sourcing & Supply Chain Compliance
- Support supplier compliance and responsible sourcing activities.
- Assist with supplier due diligence and compliance reviews.
- Maintain supplier compliance records and documentation.
- Support supply chain sustainability initiatives.
Modern Slavery & Ethical Trading
- Support the company's Modern Slavery and Ethical Trading programmes.
- Assist with supply chain risk assessments and due diligence.
- Maintain supporting documentation and compliance records.
- Support annual reporting activities where required.
Risk Management
- Maintain compliance, environmental and supplier risk registers.
- Assist with business and operational risk assessments.
- Monitor actions arising from identified risks.
- Support business continuity and resilience planning activities.
Audit & Continuous Improvement
- Coordinate internal audit programmes.
- Support certification, customer and supplier audits.
- Monitor corrective actions and improvement initiatives.
- Identify opportunities to improve systems, processes and compliance performance.
Candidate Profile
Essential Experience
- Experience within a compliance, quality, sustainability, environmental or management systems role.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001 and/or ISO 14001.
- Experience supporting audits and compliance activities.
- Strong organisational and document management skills.
- Experience working with procedures, policies and management systems.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
Desirable Experience
- EcoVadis, Sedex or SMETA experience.
- Packaging Compliance or EPR reporting.
- Sustainability or ESG reporting.
- Product compliance or regulatory affairs.
- CE or UKCA marking exposure.
- Supplier compliance or responsible sourcing programmes.
- Carbon reporting or environmental data management.
- Experience within manufacturing, packaging, distribution or supply chain environments.
- Understanding of UK and EU legislation.
Qualifications
Essential
- Degree, HND or equivalent experience in Quality, Compliance, Sustainability, Environmental Management or a related discipline.
Desirable
- Internal Auditor Qualification.
- ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 Auditor Training.
- IEMA Certificate or equivalent environmental qualification.
- Sustainability or ESG-related training.
